Best Rainy Day Hikes in Whites

For rainy day hikes I usually choose a waterfalls hike. Zealand Falls and Thoreau Falls are two of my favorites.

    Swimming in the White Mountains?

I'll probably get slammed for this but...I've always enjoyed swimming at the Lower Falls on the Kanc. Always refreshing and always fun. Sorry, just my opinion. :o

    Best Hikes in the US!

Good list! Red Rock Canyon is IMO the most beautiful spot in the US. I loved hiking there. I'm glad to see Welch-Dickey make the list. Even as an experienced hiker I still love that trail. Mt. Magalloway in Pittsburg is not a 4K but it probably offers one of the best summit views in all of NH...

    Biggest Nature Surprise

For me it was the Bavarian Alps in Germany. I'll say that I was surprised because it was cloudy and foggy as heck when we got to the area and you could not even see the mountains. When the sun finally broke through I was amazed at how high those mountains were.

    Biggest Nature Surprise

Agree 100% Red Rock Canyon is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Spend the day hiking in it then spend the nights cruising the Vegas strip; good way to spend a vacation.

    Who's got spring/summer plans?

Got a few trips to the Whites planned for this summer. Going to Crawford Notch Campground w/ my son for a weekend in June. We plan to hike Mount Willard again. In July going to Jefferson for a week with both wife and son. We plan to (once again) hike Starr King and go on to Waumbek. Of course...

I used a Keltie Carrier for my son when he was about 1. It worked out just fine and had good safety features.

favorite/most convenient town in the Whites ?

Some good choices on that list. I pretty much like all of them. However, I voted for other. There isn't much hiking up in Pittsburg but I sure do love flatwater kayaking and there is plenty of that to be done on the three Connecticut Lakes and some of the ponds as well. I also enjoy taking a...

    The Positives of Winter Hiking

Not a big fan of winter or snow however, I do like to use my snowshoes. Also the solitude is very nice.

How much do you spend per year in NH subject to rooms and meals tax?

I only get up to NH about twice a year to do some hiking. So when I go I like to spend either a long weekend or a full week. I also like to have a roomy cabin. Count me in as part of the $1K or more group.

Best spots to find Gray Jays

If you are willing to take a trip to the Great North Woods way up to Pittsburg, the summit of Mount Magalloway is a great place to see them. Be sure to have some sort of trail mix on you and they'll gladly eat right out of your hand.

The Sweet Older Couple – Proof that you can be active at any age. Older hikers inspire the younger, out-of-breath chaps to strive for a life of health and fitness. I always like seeing them for the reasons stated above.
