    RI Hiking Article

Not looking to start a debate on hunting vs. hiking, I just thought I'd post this since it has to do with hiking and not much hiking news ever comes out of RI. Since RI is not a hiking state and we don't get much traffic on our hiking trails, I have to say that our trails (though uneventful)...

What's on your feet? (Three-season hiking footwear)

EMS Hiking Boots. I need the ankle support and they work just fine for me.

    Loon Populations are up

Cool. I hope to be kayaking next to them on 1st Connecticut Lake and East Inlet next week. They're always fun to paddle along next to.

    Lyme Disease resource

 I didn't either. I'll be going up to Pittsburg next week to hike Mt. Magalloway. I haven't used the product yet and it sounds like I'll just be using it up there. I'll have to get rid of it before coming home. I need to protect the guy in my avatar. Looks like DEET for me as well. Thanks...

Need a post-hiking activity? Live music near the Whites 7/3 and 7/16.

I like the music. I see you are coming to RI on August 12th, will try to make it to the show.

    Lyme Disease resource

Never had Lyme but I am just getting over Ehrlichiosis; mentioned in the article from Columbia University. I had it bad and was in the hospital for 4 days getting pumped with IVs of Doxycycline. I also had to take the pill form for 10 days after getting out of the hospital. I don't recall the...

    Hiker rescued off Knife Edge

What a shame. It sounds like a great assignment, too bad it had to end up the way it did. Nice work by the rescue team. This guy is fortunate to be alive. Hopefully he's getting the best of medical care.

Best Apple Pie, Vermont to White Mountain Region

I've had the apple pie at the Common Man in Lincoln so I'll give it a vote.

    Good Businesses In the Whites

I agree 100% with the businesses in the above mentioned post that I am familiar with. The others that I am not I'll have to try. Elvio's in Lincoln certainly is great. Another place in Lincoln where I've always eaten well and been treated well is Notch View Country Kitchen. Great breakfast. If...

    Rescue on King Ravine Tr

Neither. It would simply be logical. Glad the story has a good ending though, as always a big thumbs up to the rescue workers.

Is Burning Wood Bad for the Environment?

I burned some wood last night...probably why I am so sore and tired this morning. ;)

Reckless endangerment of impressionable children -- the sequel

I have a problem with this... It sounds like too damn much fun! ;) I'd be looking to sign myself up. How could anybody, especially those on a hiking board not agree with this and support it? Plus the price is more than reasonable. This is one thread where I'm sure we'll get 100% agreement.

A new reason to climb Waumbek

Thanks for posting this. I did Waumbek last year and thought it was a great hike. It sounds like I need to do it again. And that old lodge location near the Starr King Summit is VERY cool for those who haven't seen it.

    Potash and Hedgehog

I did Potash once and thought it was a great little hike. Fantastic views for minimal effort. I remember falling into the Downes Brook when trying to cross. I didn't mind though since it was a hot day in early September. I have never done Hedgehog but would like to sometime. Good trip report...

    What to eat for breakfast?

A pre-hike breakfast for me is always a stack of pancakes with LOTS of maple syrup.

Any suggestions????? (Looking for relatively easy hike)

I second Mt. Potash. Great little hike on the Kanc. Should be a good one for your group.

Jordan Romero, 13 yo attempting Everest

First, I'll admit that I did not read the entire article; I will do so later. I have mixed feelings about this. I do give the kid a ton of credit. This statement says a lot: He certainly has his head and heart in the right place. Still, he could set the example he wants to set by climbing...
