    Breakneck Ridge 5/30/2010

Yes, we're fine. "Exploder" is just a bit of a black humor nickname for the Ford Explorer, which came about a bunch of years back when they were having problems with their tires blowing out and causing accidents.

    Breakneck Ridge 5/30/2010

My partner Paul and I climbed Breakneck Ridge over the Memorial Day weekend as one of our final training hikes for our upcoming Rainier trip. I've wanted to hike Breakneck for several years and just never found the right confluence of free time/partner availability/good weather/etc. Arguably...

    Denali 2010, a sucess!

Nah...doesn't make sense to confine the suffering to just one day. Better stretch it out to a full week. ;) (Terminal stank doesn't set in till about day six, anyway...)

Just...wow! Way to get after it! And with pneumonia, no less... Great TR and photos.

Refreshing: No cause, no sponsor, no record

Color me cynical, but I can't help but think there might be a book deal buried in there somewhere... Ya, you betcha! ;)

    Denali 2010

Per the expedition dispatch, the team topped out and returned to high camp yesterday (26th May) after a 16-hour summit day. There was no mention of anybody having to turn back, so I can only assume that Kristina and Don stood on top of The Great One with everybody else. Congrats, DangerGirl...

    Lei Wang did it!

Yeah, from some of her earlier blog posts it was starting to look iffy, but I'm glad things turned around for her. Mazel Tov, Lei!

Woman flown off Denali after refusing to climb any farther

Any chance that a cattle prod will become part of the DNPP ranger's kit starting in 2011? :D (I know battery life in the cold can be an issue, but still...)

    Denali 2010

[thread hijack] FYI, our very own Dangergirl (i.e., Kristina) is on Denali right now. She and Don are acclimatising at the 14k camp after making a back-carry from 11k yesterday. Not sure when their guided team's summit push is planned for -- they still need to cache/carry to 17k and...

Petzl Reverso 3 vs. Black Diamond ATC Guide

Stutter much...? :D Oh, you ladies and your matching accessories. A friend of mine picked up a pair of BD Reactors a coupla seasons ago -- in their stock, hideous baby-puke yellow/green color -- primarily because they matched her (also hideously baby-puke yellow/green) LaSportiva...

Petzl Reverso 3 vs. Black Diamond ATC Guide

The Rev3 does look pretty sweet, but since I already have about a half-dozen different belay/rappel devices, I can't really justify pickup up yet another one. (Much to the chagrin of my inner gear whore! ;)) I pretty much only use the ATC Guide for ice, as its toothed design works really well...

8th annual ADK BBQ and Gathering

Oh, snap! ;) I've been wanting to bring da kids back up to do another ADKHP, so this looks like a good excuse to get up there. As I'm a ADKBBQ n00b, I was wondering if there is usually music (either around the campfire or elsewhere)? If so, I'll throw an instrument or two in the Thule box...

    Route Closures for Wallface?

D'OH! Knew that. Evidently, my last 13 years in CT has trumped my first 28 years growing up in NYS.

    Route Closures for Wallface?

Typically I've only seen falcon closures posted for Poke-O and Washbowl; there doesn't seem to be anything listed for Wallface here: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7870.html I guess you might try calling the closest DEP ranger station to double-check, but you get props anyway for thinking ahead...

Wall Face - Indian Pass shelter

Not yet (I'm not quite leading 5.8's at this point), but the Diagonal is on my hit list, along with Whitney-Gilman. Those are two classics of the ADKs and Whites, respectively. If you do make it out to Wallface, make sure to post up a trip report. :D
