    Spring Hunting season in Catskills

Yes, and it coordinates so well with his plutonium-coloured Mammut softshell. (For all you atomic geeks: Yes, I know plutonium is actually a dull grey, but I'm going for comedic effect here. Just work with me, people...)

    Phoenix AZ hiking -- Suggestions?

^^^This iz korrekt. Before we got married, SWMBO and I went out to see my soon-to-be inlaws, who were living in Scottsdale at the time. During our visit, my MIL explained the difference between spring and summer in Phoenix this way (it was early May, IIRC): In the spring, it's 100F daytime/75...

First Woman to scale the 14 8Ks

Well, considering I've seen her age reported online as both 34 and 44, I guess you're both correct! Oldest, youngest, male, female...whatever. 14 x 8,000m is a damned impressive achievement irrespective of any qualifiers.

    What to eat for breakfast?

Did he say where Kit Kat bars go? (I loves me the Kit Kat.) I thought it was the spandex bike shortz that made my butt look big, but now I'm wondering if it might be the Kit Kats. ;) "Gimme a break...gimme a break..."

Oldest...youngest...woman...blind...double-amputee...naked...first cell-phone call from the summit... Jeebus, already! Does it always have to be about the records? Doesn't anybody climb the friggin' mountain for personal reasons anymore? You know, like the physical and mental...

Alex featured on The Kitchen Sisters' "The Hidden World of Girls" (NPR)

Good on ya, Trish! And Alex, 'natch.... Unfortunately, I can't listen to the story at work (thanks to my I.T. Gestapo ) but I'll check it out from home over the weekend.

Latest and greatest or "old friends"

Old...but not as old as Chip's. BITD, he bought (new) one of the early designs, when they were still being carved out of stone. A touch heavy, yes, but bombproof... ;)

care to discuss your winter day/climbing pack ?

I've got the Cilo 30L, 65L and 75L Worksacks and think they're the shiznit, which is why I'm trying to sell off some of my other packs. That said, for quick "stuffability" of snowshoes, there very well may be better packs than the Cilo's. (Maybe the Spindrift that the Chipster has on order...

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

If you're like most people, you didn't put the weight on quickly...it crept up little-by-little over the years, so give it some time to come off. You'll get there eventually, and can have a good time doing it! (mister 15 winter ADK peaks in one season... :D)

    Winter Hiking

Way to get after it, man! Sadly, I didn't get to the ADKs this winter, but I did bang out 7 of the NH48, so it's not all bad... ;)

care to discuss your winter day/climbing pack ?

Dude...I didn't know you were in the market! I'll give you a good deal on my barely-used Marmot Eiger 36. It's an awesome pack -- been on top of Algonquin and Giant in winter -- but I really need to thin the herd a bit. Call me. Since I know you're a slave to fashion, I'll be up front and...

Latest and greatest or "old friends"

^^^This iz korrekt!! eBay, craigslist, STP, SAC and the online hiking/climbing forum For Sale sections are my favorite places to shop. And, of course, the weekly 20% off sale at EMS... My personal mantra is "If it's for free, it's for me!"

    Would you climb Mt Everest?

I'm fascinated by Everest, as evidenced by the many books and DVDs in my mountaineering library. That said, the probability of me ever climbing it is approaching zero, as I have one pre-condition that will never be met: I need to have the route to myself (or exclusively to our expedition). I'd...

    Different Ways of Redlining

Yeah, being a car guy, "redlining" always has an automotive connotation for me. I'd be careful redlining as you describe it, though, Tom...if one isn't in shape, redlining could lead to flatlining real quick!
