Also noted, Monday The Emily Proctor Trail was closed. The forest roads in the area have been repaired for the most part, however, there is still alot of work and heavey equipment in the roads.

    Breadloaf Wilson 10Oct11

I first tried to go up Emily Proctor trail. There was a sign at the trailhead stating it was closed due to storm damamge. I went to Skylight. The trail is in great shape, no bowdown or washouts. Pretty dry. The Emily Procot shelter is in great shape. I didn't bother to go to the Skylight Pond...

    Spruce cones on Moriah, 7/9/2011

Papa Bear...That could be a good mnemonic "Fur up" as in "don't get your dander up" But that might make me think of a cat and cat spruce (aka White spruce) but the white spruce the cones would point down...now I have really confused myself. Then again the balsam firs have the blisters on the...

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

What about protective instincts for the Fisher's family? If I am standing in line at the supermarket and see someone with a cart full of baby food and pampers I will let them go first...the kid is hungry. Or if a two year old drops his meat loaf I panic, the little guy might go hungry. I...

    Isolation via Glen Boulder?

I am the trail adopter for the upper section of Glenn Boulder....it IS nasty when it is wet btween the boulder and the drop off into tree line. As I get older and become more of a chicken sh!t I might opt for some trail I can access with my walker and grub hoe.

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

This thread has me thinking...fishers are the main predators of porcupines. Would these hikers in Maine stop to do something to save the cute little porcupine?

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

Winter hike to Algonquin, Iriquois and Phelps this past Feb. I grabbed my gaitors to realize I had one of mine and one of my wife's that would not fit. Gaitorless, I had to watch my bretheren spring the spruce traps before me. I could only ausage my guilt that night with a few beers and 12 year...

    Interesting names of trails

Finally found an answer to the naming of the Black Angel trail mystery. It was named by Mr. Alva Richardson who was a Forest Guard stationed at the Wild River Ranger Station. Alva helped build the Black Angel Trail in 1927. It was named because they found a blackened tree stump that resembled...
