AMC to Add Three New Stops to Hiker Shuttle Route this Summer

I would be happy to pay a dollar more if they would fumigate the other hikers. Or hang those pine tree air freshners all over the bus. In all fairness I am sure I small as bad to them as they to me...it is all a matter of perspective.

Best spots to find Gray Jays

This from some research I did: The gray jay lives in the spruce-fir regions starting around 3500 feet elevation to tree line. (They will move to lower elevations in the winter.) They are also found in the black spruce boreal bogs ie Shoal Pond. Although there have been no studies that define the...

Best spots to find Gray Jays

Brian, You make a very valid point which is in the spirit of LNT. I have heard others voice this same idea without being as gentle as you. (they were LNT instructors) I have heard others argue that feeding gray jays is an extension of feeding our back yard birds. Furthermore a new hiker, young...

    Killington from Bucklin 2/20

It was a great day. The bottom of Bucklin is in a decidious forest and really opens up in the winter. Not much in the way of birds....some mammal tracks. The Guiness was as I always remember. To bad hiking conditions can't be that consistent and good.

A Trek to "Willey Pond" with a Couple of Add-ons

John, Great photos. I love this area. Not all of the great views are at the 'top' I have had gray jays and spruce grouse in that area fro the Pond cut off to Shoal Pond.

He actually uses english muffins. We he shows up they fly into a tree behind him. He gives a few pieces and then throws the rest into a trap. I don't know if he is drawing blood. Blood samples have been drawn from alot of birds to track prevalence of west nile. Ridgewalker could shed some light...

I think "Geology of New York: a Simplified Account" is what I am looking for. There is a large chapter on the Adirondacks. Thanks for the tip.

Best spots to find Gray Jays

Starr King-Waumbec. Willard in addition to what has been already mentioned. I also had them at shoal pond. They are found in the spruce forests. They may migrate down from the high peaks area into valleys during very rough winters, but it is uncommon. They will eat of your hand in areas where...

    The Old Leatherman Presentation 16Apr11

http://www.ct-amc.org/ct/index.shtm This is a rich book with maps and photos of this legend. The topic has been kicked around on VFTT before. There are a few trails that go near his caves.

    Book Recommendation

I am hoping to find a good book that covers the geology of the Adirondacks. Formation, bedrock types, glaciation etc. I stopped into the Mountaineer in Keene hoping to find such a book without any luck. Thanks

    Fishers in the news

Tom Some great points are raised in that article. We as humans can't image a world that comes to us through the sense of smell. Canines and mustelids communicate mainly via p-mail.
