Another couple of rescues over the weekend.

    Gaiters for New England

I’m on my third pair of OR crocodile gaiters. I did send back the second pair after my crampons ripped a hole in them and OR sent me a new pair for free. My current pair has lasted me two more winters and I recently had to do a repair job of stitching and stapling. I do not feel it is right to...

    Broken Grivels

I also have two flexible bars that I bought from another retailer and use them on my Koflach's. I also carry two rigid bars that came with the Grivel's as backup.

Our group will have boots on trail by 8:00am. The trail is all broken out and from Trish's TR a super highway.

    Evo Ascents

I just off the phone with Cascade Designs to ask if I could purchase the Evo bindings separately, and then replace the LA bindings with the Evo’s, which I think is a stronger binding. Since my shoes hadn’t arrived yet, he said he would place a note in my file having them do the replacement for...

    Evo Ascents

My bad, I just posted the first thread I could find. There have been so many threads it is difficult to find just the right one. Anyway, I will keep my options open.

    Evo Ascents

There have been a few threads on this board about the failure of the Lightning Ascents. In short, my first pair broke at the pivot pins, holding the bindings to the decking, and my second set broke at the rivets on the bindings...

    Evo Ascents

Totally agree that flotation is not an issue. I've always liked the decking of the Lightnings over the Evo, yet I'm getting tired of replacing them. I'll wait until I get my new ones and pray that I can complete the season before I have to make a decision. Though it does sound like a new pair of...

    Evo Ascents

I have read most of the threads on the Ascents and have even contributed to them. My second pair didn’t even last a season of moderate hiking, let alone aggressive hiking. My first pair took a lot of abuse and finally gave up the ghost after three years of aggressive climbing so I didn’t think...

    Evo Ascents

I’m waiting to get my new replacement pair of Lightning Ascents (second replacement pair) and will use them sparingly given their track record with breakage, so I’m looking for a different shoe as my main workhorse for climbing. Has anyone used the Evo Ascents? Are they subject to the same...

Personal Winter NH 4K hiking trends

It took my wife and me 4 years to do the all season, and me 3 years to complete the winter. Although I’m not actively pursuing the Grid, I do keep score. For now, I just pimp myself out to others who are looking to complete a list.

    Super-Pretty Wintry Welch and Dickey

Thanks for the photos. I live 2.2 miles from the trailhead and do W/D at least 10 times a year. That second to the last photo is a fun place to use a swiss Bob.

I just hope the new pair will last the season then I'm moving on to something else.

N.H. Conservation Officers Rescue Maine Hiker

Tell me about it, I broke my second pair of Lightning Ascent coming down Owl's Head slide last weekend.

    Bonds Traverse, 2/4/2012 (weather permitting)

When I use NOAA it brings me to the map, with Campton at the center, so how do you get to the page with the text? Never mind, I found it. I definitely like this forecast better!!!

    Bonds Traverse, 2/4/2012 (weather permitting)

There seems to be a difference in the forecast from MWOBS and other sites. The Franconia Ridge should prove some degree of a buffer, so we might not experience the level of winds that MWOBS is predicting. The last time I did the traverse they were calling for 60+ winds and I didn’t feel anything...
