    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

Thanks. I had the National Parks East maps on the 8 GB card, so that is now in the 64, but my Waypoints list of nearly every Northeast 3000-footer I had not yet climbed, carefully entered one-by-one eight years ago, doesn’t appear anywhere anymore, not even on the 60. I don’t know if I’ll be...

Yes. Saw some along Lincoln Woods Trail and lower Osseo yesterday.

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

Yes. First I had it sitting on a rock at the Crawford Path parking lot while I donned my boots and pack, then it rode in my pack for at least another half hour while I walked around. The picture of the satellites overhead and the signal-strength bars never appeared at all. And continue to not...

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

I wrote to Garmin and was sent a link for an external antenna, but the cable was more than 8 feet long, which seemed ridiculous, and I didn’t even know for sure if using it would fix the problem. Plus I didn’t know where I could go to find one in stock around here so I could try it out first, so...

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

Thanks. I stopped at a Radio Shack, but the guy said they didn’t have an antenna for a GPS.

I think I know your license plate. You’re not the person who lost the MicroSpike below Jackson, are you?

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

I can navigate through the several screens without any problem. My start page info is still there. On the Computer page, it doesn’t know the time, the clocks don’t count the passing seconds, and there is no movement recorded.

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

Good bid, but I don’t think that’s it, either. I replaced the 8GB replacement chip I’ve been using for several years with the original 128MB one, and the result was the same. I removed the chip altogether, and the result is the same.

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

Hmm. How would I attach another antenna, and what would another antenna consist of? A coat hanger, something like that? There’s plenty of memory. If I had filled up all 20 tracks it would refuse to save any more, but it would still acquire satellites.

Found: Red MicroSpike below Mount Jackson, Wednesday, May 6

I know it was lost the same day, because the Mizpah Spring Hut caretaker told me that a man had stopped in asking about it. She said I arrived about 30-45 minutes after he left. But I had spent some time eating my lunch before going inside to ask about it, so I may have encountered the person...

    GPS won’t/can’t acquire satellites

At the Crawford Path parking lot on Wednesday, May 6, my GPS could not acquire satellites. The GPS of course is a Garmin 60CSx. I have had trouble with it now and then previously, as some of you may remember, but I never saw anything like this. It shows zero satellites on the display. None. No...

A motorcycle went up Mount Clinton Road on Wednesday, May 6, from the Route 302 end and I could hear it roaring away for a while, receding into the distance, so I think that road must be open. Unless the rider just went around the gate, I suppose.

    Pin-pin

Last I remember was that he had completed 100 rounds of the 46 and was the fifth — I think — finisher of the Northeast 3K list. In pursuit of the latter, he did all of the Catskills’ 3000-footers in one winter despite never having hiked there before. But what about Tom Sawyer? He was on the...

‘‘Backpacker’’ had its own list. New Hampshire’s was the view from Zeacliff. That’s the only one I remember.

    Hancock Trail Relocations

I climbed the Hancocks in May and October this year, and there wasn’t any rerouting going on that I was aware of, although the ‘‘White Mountain Guide’’ says that the first two crossings have been bypassed. But that must have been done some years ago to have made it into the latest edition of the...

Can I ride regular hybrid bike on the Lincoln Woods road ?

And riding a bicycle of any kind doesn’t count for peakbagging purposes. http://www.amc4000footer.org/faqs.html

What’s going on with these rocks?

That first photo is the one outside Galehead hut, but the hole on top looks pretty round. That artificiality and the rocks’ locations along trails that are often old logging roads made me suspect that they were man-made. Thanks for the information.
