    Colvin-Blake-Colvin-Nippletop-Dial.

You're welcome :D :D . So what was your time? 38 minutes? ;) I had to laugh - a couple of months ago when I did Colvin/Blake, I noticed when I was signing out at the register that you had signed in an hour after me, did Sawteeth, Gothics, Armstrong, Upper WJ, and Lower WJ and signed out an...

    Colvin/Blake 12/22/07

Date of Hike: 12-22-07 Trail Conditions: Lake Road is in its usual "highway" condition. A couple of large groups in front of us heading for Nippletop and Dial had a good trail in progress but we passed most of them along the way. Up from Elk pass it was difficult trail breaking the entire...

February trip to Camp Peggy O'Brien

I'll put in extra money as well. No cancelling, please! And besides, it's pretty likely we could find someone as the trip got closer too.

    Colden from the Loj 12-8-07

Date of Hike: 12-08-07 Trail Conditions: Hard packed snow up to Marcy dam. A couple of inches of new stuff on top of a nice firm foundation (enough to fill in between all the rocks!) up to the Lake Arnold Trail. From there up we had to break trail in snow up to two feet deep. Thankfully, the...

    Lost hunter blames GPS

Sorry, but I can't resist pointing out one more "issue"... the article states he was going snowblind--at night , and was completely snowblind within 30 minutes of dawn. I don't think so... Snow blindness is typically at high altitude, in strong sunlight, on very reflective snow. Not...

Maine Roadhouse - moved from T&E

It's definitely winterized. We spent a week up there last winter. Very nice accommodations. A big bunk room or there's a couple of smaller (double) rooms. There's a washer/dryer on premises, hot showers, and a big kitchen.

    Major Snow Storm coming

Good one Giggy!:D In the Utica area we got about 6-8 inches but with some sleet/freezing rain in between the snow. It's not snowshoeing conditions in my yard either! Here's an interesting snow depth site I found.

NTL Geographic TV-Nightmare on Mt Hood

This accident had nothing to do with deteriorating conditions. It was simply an unfortunate series of events and an all-to-common problem on highly climbed routes. One rope team fell and pulled other teams off the mountain and into a crevasse. Mostly you want to be off the summit before the...

    The Carter rage overnighter 11/17-18/07

Sorry we missed you guys! It would have been great to meet you. I was a bit of a sight up there on the ridge though. I lost a snowshoe after the clevis pins broke off and chose to keep walking with just the cleat on my foot... silly things we do in the woods! I really like the views from...

WOO HOO! Thanks for posting this Ian. Just think, our own Hikethe115 is a star:D! Gotta say, HarryK and I are demanding a retraction... we were named as non-trail hiking friends!! :D :D :D

    Headlamp Input

My very favorite headlamp is the Tikka XP. It only weighs about 3 oz and has several settings and a "diffuser" as well as a "boost" button to provide a burst of extra light. It's good for hiking in wider, more open areas but is a little costly. My very cheap back-up headlamp is the Black...

    Plateau 11/10

Sounds like a good day! It was going up that steep side of Plateau that I learned a very valuable lesson... One must sharpen her crampons from time to time;)! It can be a wicked climb in winter.

    Mt Washington, November 10, 2007

Cooool... Great pics Sabrina. Mount Washington is my favorite hike! There are so many routes up to it, once you get done with your newest list you'll have to explore them all. I'm working on the 48x12 now and am trying to redline all the trails on the Pressies:D. Hopefully George and the...

    Tuco gets 47 & 48 - November 10, 2007

Congratulations Tuco! As I read between the lines of your post what I hear is "it's not the arrival, but the journey that counts." Ain't that the truth! You're right, lots of friendships have been "born" on this site but then "matured" while climbing the amazing peaks of the northeast:)...
