Injured hiker carried 8 miles to safety

These are life's little bumps that help show us our character as well as the character of others. Your's is solid Bob. Sometimes my perspective gets jaded by the horrible things human beings are capable of... it's a pleasure to be reminded that good people like you are out there! P.S...

You know might be addicted to hiking...

You take a "mental health" day off from work to hike Panther, Couchie, Santanoni... after several days of rain:D (thought of this one yesterday as I was tromping through the swamps! Maybe I needed to justify the need for a mental health day;) )

    Vegetarian food/snacks for hiking

I've been vegan for years! I usually have bagels with peanut butter for my lunch. For snacks I love the primal strips Daxs mentioned and since getting protein on the trail is tough for non meat-eaters, they are good for that too. Another brand is Stonewall's Jerquee. It comes in lots of...

Can anyone help with this problem?

OK, not to sound like the biggest fool who ever found their way into a tent;), but... My favorite sleeping bag (and the one I use most often) is a zero degree bag that utilizes draw cords to pull the hood and draft collar closed. Here's the problem, when I pull the draft collar so it's snug...

    Jefferson via Six Husbands, 9/29/07

Enjoyed your TR Tuco. And it's very timely for me. I hope to do Six Husbands this weekend. Looks like a blast! Great pics. The way you have your hiking partners positioned in them helps to give real perspective. I especially like the one of you popping up and out of the "cave." Sounds...

    NH parking area vandalism

I'm heading to the Whites for the long weekend and may do some backpacking. I haven't seen any posts recently and was just wondering if vandalism on cars at the parking areas (specifically Great Gulf) was still a problem?

Basin and Saddleback, Sept 29, 2007 ADK No 41, 42

In my opinion, Huntington has one long slab that compares, but overall, the "moves" you have to make are more technical and difficult on Saddleback. However, the climbing and exposure lasts a LOT longer on Huntington. dogger, nice report and very "human" intervention. I think lots of folks...

It's usually the elevation, not the mileage that gets me. This hike was roughly 6000'. I've been on a mission, I'd like to get in good enough shape to do a 10,000' day:D. do you mean this one?

Abortive Monroe Attempt via Boott Spur

Great trip report... I was there with you! There's nothing like the Pressies and that kind of experience. I can't tell you how many "aborted" attempts I have had while heading for different pressies. Each one though has made for a memorable experience. I give you credit for coming down the...
