Great trip report! I also did Seek the Peak and saw you on the summit (I noticed Emma and wondered at her ability to hike up there:D). I made good time up and back down because I was worried about the thunderstorms. I am so glad they didn't materialize, especially as I saw lots of folks still...

I have to agree with the others. It's not a very desireable descent. It's definitely tough on the knees and very "scraggly." I much prefer Lion Head for a picturesque, extremeley varied, and easier way down. Maybe try going up Nelson Crag and down tucks or lionhead?

Great TR and happy birthday! I too agree that being on top of a mountain is the only place to be on one's birthday. The only problem for me is that every year I try to outdo the hike of the previous one. Last year I finished the NH48 on my b-day. Now I have to figure out the next one:D.

What, do I lie??? The mud was significantly worse than the last time I did these peaks. Most of us had mud splashed up past our knees, but it certainly didn't stop us:). It was typical ADK conditions... for Spring:D.

I have to agree with Sli. I've flow many times with my stove and fuel bottles in my checked bag. Never had a problem. I always have the cover off the bottles for a time before flying to help cut down on fumes. Not sure that matters, but what the heck, it's worked so far.

I just got off the phone with Dawn. She was in Harper's Ferry on Monday, she's now in Maryland. She continues to have a blast and can't find anything to complain about!

Very well written TR Una. Big Slide holds a special place in my heart, in my memory, and oh yeah, in my elbow! Always nice to read reports of trips up there. Terra sounds like a real trail master!

No GPS info to share, but Eagle and Big Indian are BARELY bushwacks. The tiny spur trail to Eagle is marked by a cairn. Big Indian is fairly easy to locate, just keep heading up! On the Seager trail it's about a 9 mile hike and 2200' of elevation gain on easy trails. Not a bad day at all.

Wow Bubba. What an experience. It's great that others rallied around you. It's amazing how quickly and innocently something can go so wrong. Glad you're OK. What's the recovery time look like?
