    Flags on the 48 2012

Flags on the 48 2012 will be held on Saturday, September 8th 2012. On the closest Saturday to September 11th, hundreds of hikers converge on New Hampshire's 4000 foot peaks and raise flags as part of a memorial to those lost on that fateful day. Flags should be at the peaks and flying by...

    Wildcat O&B

I maintain that section from 16 to Wildcat D. I think the trickest part is the two sections of rock pin steps. Be very sure of your footing on these steps because mud from boots and just general dampness can make them slick. Just before you reach the first rock pin steps, there is a...

    3,000 Miles and 1,000,000 feet - It's A Good Start, 6/30/2007 to 5/12/2012

Congrats! A Worthy accomplishment! Thanks for always giving me an accurate heads up on my adopted trail.

"The Grid" has replaced "The List"

I am surprised no one has mentioned redlining the WMG handbook as a list/goal. Rather than repeating many hikes, for me, I'd rather go and explore new places and trails I've never done. Trails exist for a reason: they go somewhere. I'd like to see where all the trails go to instead of...

So nice to see you Lisa after a long time. You were our good luck charm for helicopters this year.

Cannon -- Flags on the 48

Where to start? Honestly this trip report does not start on 9/11 of this year. Nope it starts two weeks after last years event. My step-daughter, Kristen, died from a suicide three weeks prior. I was pretty much a mess. I wrote up a resignation for Flags and had decided to walk away from all...

Flags on the 48 - 2011 - The Ten Year Anniversary

As far as I know, short of flying to each peak that day, We will have full coverage. There is a lot of effort being put out there by a great deal of hikers. I'm very thankful for that. After the year I've had, this is a welcome smile on my face. It's good to be back.....:)

I drove the Kanc as well and had to turn around at the Discovery trailhead. Numerous dumptrucks in the area so they must need a lot of earth to secure the roadbed.

Thanks Neoakela But I just drove the length of Tripoli Road from Waterville Valley to 93 and there was nothing to stop me in terms of a detour or a road closed sign. You may be correct that it is closed but with my hyundai elantra it was certainly passable. I have a feeling there is...

I'm on it. It doesn't have to be a big flag. Any size means it was there.

Flags on the 48 - 2011 - The Ten Year Anniversary

We have had a cancellation on Mt. Isolation. I am trying to contact the group of other hikers listed to see if they can get a flag to the peak. I may need to dip into my reserves.

One week away. I'm hoping the only hiccup is the recent road closings. No cancellations yet and fingers are crossed that Katia blows out to sea.

Flags on the 48 article in Union Leader

Thanks for posting the link. It's funny how one individual hike fostered such a response. It's nice we get props every now and then but it does irk me a little that the reporter is just reporting the event and not experiencing it. It's easy to garner information from the site. Go out...

My hope is that I won't have to deal with last minute hiccups. But, I am sure there will be some and it's good to know that I have a backup or two out there. Thanks Chip.

Flags on the 48 - 2011 - The Ten Year Anniversary

As of right now, all 48 peaks will have coverage. That may change as the event gets closer but I'm hopeful for no cancellations. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help out. Fingers crossed for bright sunshine and a steady breeze!
