    Great Range - Wikipedia style...

Great stuff guys. Thanks for the intense lessons in geology. Since it was my thread... ( ;) ) and the only geological item that I knew previously was that Whiteface and Esther were different "kinds" of mtns... can you confirm or dispute that? By kinds I thought that it was "Dome" mtn v. some...

Trail or Forest - what do you see?

To me... it was the thought that got to me - and that I'd never considered the question. Probably - I see the trail in the forest. I like following blazed trails and negotiating a set path. It goes through the forest (in the stated example here) and because of the trail I get to experience the...

Richmond says to heal up fast and pain free!! ;) I followed the link to RoT - I don't know that I've been there before, but have heard of it. In an attempt to respond to Nilsa's post - I tried to register on the site. Like here, I'd need a sponsor's recommendation. Do you think that RoT is in...

I'll admire anyone that leaves Allen with that attitude. Congrats. I liked it because it is such a different ADK mtn to climb. I did it in summer and it can be a bit hot out in those exposed fields. Autumn may just be the perfect time to be there.

You know it has been too long since you last hiked when...

I think it has a lot to do with this website and reading other's posts of adventurous hikes... and wondering why I don't have a hike to share!! Or, these days... the fuel expense jar is finally full and you can afford to go!! :o

Trail or Forest - what do you see?

This came from a recent post on a Finger Lakes Trail group, but it really made me think about it - all my time on trails and mtns and I never really considered this perspective. Do you see a trail surrounded by a forest or a do you see a forest with a trail passing through it? I think I'll...

    Elk Lake

Agree w/above. I like the contrast of the natural, dark framing that gives a feel of being "in" the mountains and looking out.

Funny boy! I was trying to see what others thought was reality!! Kevin - I'm pretty sure that the term "range" is appropriate. It's called the Great Range. Next over is the McIntrye Range...

    Great Range - Wikipedia style...

I just found this on Wiki and wonder if others agree. I'm stumped. "The Great Range is a mountain range in the the Adirondack Mountains, near Keene Valley, New York, USA. It rises in the heart of the High Peaks region between Ausable Lakes to the southeast and the Johns Brook Valley to the...
