    Winter sleeping pad?

The Thermolite Sleeping Pad http://www.advancedmountainproducts.com/products/Thermolite/ looks like a thermally efficient design at an extremely low weight and would probably be good if used with a Prolite 3 (or other inflatible) on top. Anyone with experience with this or similar combis.

    Osceola’s Attempt – Big Learning Experience – 2/25/2006

Nice honest report with good humor. Maybe you got away with one. I told each of my kids: Hope that when you make a mistake it costs you little, but you learn much. Sounds like you had a personnal epihany of sorts. We all can empathize with you!!! ;) Good luck with the little one. You will...

    Which MapSet is best ?

I've had the Garmin 76CS GPS for 3 months and have used it 5 times on the trail. A couple of caveats on Map Source: 1. As other posts have said the graphics are sophmoric/bland and at times mystifying. EG: The towns they chose to use on the maps are obscure, hardly populated locations so you...

    cold weather overpants

Ive looked at the Wild Things pants and they look like a good pant for a bivy or unusually bad conditions. (last week up high?) Now I use med weight MtHardwear fleece with XCR full zip shell pants and ust under the knee Mt.H XCR gaitors which give a triple layer down low below the knee where...

    Gale River Trail Parking

Yes, Beaver Brook is definately the way to go. I walked it yesterday and the Beaver Brook xc trail plus walk across the logging clearing to the road save about a mile from the tedious road walk. Took 25 minutes from lot to Trailhead taking time to move deadwood etc. Still only 3 inches of snow...

    Garfield Ridge Peak East 3590' - 2/25

Good stuff, great pics in some seeemingly difficult circumstances. The tree may be a sapling Beech which is the default regrowth tree in those parts. Is that slide to the right of the gravel wash out to the left at approx 2200 ft as you go up the GRT. It looks like a pretty straighforward climb...

    2 more mountain lion stories......

Pictures of feline tracks on Engine Hill When we hiked out of Rocky Branch shelter iup the back side of Engine Hill in Decwmber 4 years ago, we saw feline prints. It was unique in that they were fresh and they were in a trace of new snow which had just started falling. Also we got photos of...

    Redington(attempt!)

Yes, no matter how you navigate it's a bit confusing. I found after several times summiting Reddington that the key was to stay left where my instinct wants to go right: Excerpted from Mohammed's excellent site: "Take the road that goes to the left (not shown on the map), and follow it. You will...
