Breadloaf & Wilson, via Emily Proctor and LT

Parking at the Emily Proctor trailhead could hold 15 cars or so. The last 3/10 of a mile into the lot were rough but we made it fine with a sedan. The first half of the EPT is a beautiful woods walk. Slight grade. Easy warm up and cool down. The last 1/2 of trail up to the Emily Proctor...

    Elephant, bush whack

Road in to the "parking area" seems rougher than a year ago. We were ok and a Corolla got in as well but some may balk at places. We stayed a bit left after the boggy area and it seemed a bit steep but no blowdown field at all. A couple of brushy push throughs but a pretty easy whack. Nice to...

    Baldpates via AT

AT had varying conditions. Water on trail, mud, more mud, wet slippery rocks. All crossings were bridged or easy hops. The rocks on the two peaks were dry. One blowdown which had a herd path around it. Plenty of water for dogs. I would think the rock scrambles would be a greater concern...

    East Kennebago

Update on CT Sparrow's post. Subaru Forester was able to get to parking area. How far in you get would depend on your car and how much you value it. Clearance could be an issue in many vehicles. Length of road walk will be determined by how far you get. Bush whack was about the easiest we...

North from Elephant Mountain / South Arm Road

Needing to do East Kennebago, and Elephant, this post really was timely. We took Marty's directions in the opposite direction as we did EK first. From Rt 16 in Langstown we hit 17 and then turned onto Bemis (one of the best dirt roads I've been on). It was basically a straight shot. Never...

    Wildcat Valley Ski Trail

Jackson ski touring has the map of all the ski trails in the area. No mud when under three feet of snow. :)

    Water Bladder Threads

Would have to think there was some issue that caused this problem of CB getting back to you. I have had two replaced completely in the past due to leaks, another a new hanger clip, and in the time frame Kevin is talking about a fourth that would not seal tightly (opposite of Kevin's problem)...

N and S Kinsman via Mt. Kinsman and Kinsman Ridge Trails

Mt Kinsman Trail head has plenty of parking. Met Bruce the trail adopter clearing a muddy section with drainage and rocks. People were avoiding the rocks and walking in the mud! The trail has fresh blazes and no blowdowns. The steeper sections are showing wear from lots of use, the...

    Smallest dog to take backpacking...

Last week on Gulfside as we approached Washington from the North we passed a couple with a real small dog (not sure of the breed but it's face looks like an Ewok for you old Star Wars Fans). It was on leash, and my friend commented on it's small size. The couple replied that it had done the 48...

Temporary Closure of Lincoln Woods trail

Mark, We did the Bonds and Zealand yesterday (8/12) from Zealand Trail and out. Our plan was to go out to Bondcliff turn around and go back, which we did. To answer your question we NEVER saw any postings at any of the trail heads. I will say I did not check the kiosk at the Zealand Trail...

    Snowman in August

Nice job Sue, is there a patch for snowmen in every month?

    Flume via Osseo

Plenty of parking at LW. Some mud on LW but easily avoided. Osseo had some mud that could be avoided. Erosion is becoming an issue in many spots. Trail work was beginning on LW. Great day out.

Temporary Closure of Lincoln Woods trail

Did Flume, via Osseo today. The trail crew was at the washout (orange fencing) and had started to clear what I believe will be the trail. Also chainsawed some trees along the side of the trail closer to LW. Not sure of the purpose of that.

Free Screening of "The People's Forest" about the creation of the WMNF

Very well done. Lots of cool old Forest Service video and of course stills of the devastation. Owls Head with a mushroom cloud of smoke over it :(! Showing next Thursday (25th) in Lancaster at 7:00 at the Rialto Theater. Fun to be back in our old classroom.

    Horn, Bulge, Cabot

Took Unknown Pond Trail from the Mill Brook side (Stark). Parking for a couple of cars at the bridge and more up around the corner. Lower trail was wet and muddy (avoidable). Once it went up it was fine. Needs brushing. The Kilkenny Ridge Trail needs brushing and has a number of blowdowns...

West Castle, Nash Stream Forest Rds

Thanks Bryan. Your NEHH and NHHH reports have been a big help in our adventures. We will let you know what route we take and what we find. Might be worth the Bog Rd. just to see the pond. Ken

West Castle, Nash Stream Forest Rds

We will be going up north this week to hit some NHHH peaks. We will be doing Sugarloaf and want to get in West Castle. Question one. Has anyone got information on a BW from Sugarloaf over to W. Castle? We thought about dropping NW from the summit, to the col, then following about a 3300'...

    Ridge Hike Info

I don't know if it changes your plans or not, but there is a new post on NETC that has the Kate Sleeper trail reopened. The Wonalancet Outing Club and other volunteers cleared most of it so it is passable. http://newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/viewreport.php?entryid=13098

Other overnight parking options for Franconia Notch

Went in this past Saturday from the Basin parking lot to the bike path and then to the bushwhack (winter route). Bushwhack is real visible so you might want to try a more direct route from the Flume Slide intersection for map and compass work. Have fun
