The re-lo was flagged by MATC legend Lester Kenway a few seasons back. Should be open by the fall of 2015. The closed section of Abol will remain closed after the re-lo opens. It's been monitored, and is reportedly yet to stabilize.

Wayward, think about visiting the Abol Bridge area on the Golden Road outside the Park. No need to board your dog, classic views from the bridge, and a flat hike to had at the start of the 100 Mile Wilderness. You can walk in to the Park boundary at Abol Stream via the AT for a postcard perfect...

Nice report! An easy day hike loop, and terrific overnighter. I like it north to south, coming back to the lot via the inland trail. A well known "secret" nowadays, but still remote and quiet.

Not especially, Breeze. Anywhere in the Whites is hours closer than Baxter. We won't be hiking or climbing. Just looking for a nice primitive car camping campground that's open this Thursday. Picnic table, campfire. Got a favorite? I think the WMNF ones are first come first serve, no rezs, right?

Baxter State Park just canceled my reservations for the 15th and 16th due to the late spring. I had a lean-to at Katahdin Stream for my son and I. Baxter lean-tos are the only car campground-ing I've ever done. Don't own a 'family sized tent', and 99.9% of my camping out has been backpacking...

I'm shopping for a new pad too. Kittery Trading Post to fondle, Camp-mor to buy. I think I'll get a Big Agnes, even though they're not self inflating.

The Abol Bridge Store/Restaurant is now open, and the parking there remains safe. I've never parked up Telos.
