    A Lafayette Afternoon

Very nice! I hiked Cannon on Saturday as you were probably skiing it, and we were looking over at Lafayette and the ridge with our binoculars. That is a nice shot of Cannon. It's almost like your hovering over it, and those cliffs definitely make Greenleaf a must-do for Lafayette next time.

Winter is over, what did y'all do

Well it was a pretty good winter for me. After my great 2011, I didn't really have any set goals for this winter, but it resulted in some fun stuff... 21 total 4000-footers this winter, a couple for 2nd time in winter 12 were new this year, did 9 last year, have 21 total Which includes: NYE...

The Only Thing Better Than a Presi Day is.....

That is amazing! That is something that I hope I'm lucky enough to experience someday up there. Speechless.

What gear do you dream of getting, or getting rid of....

I am dreaming here, but I would dream about getting a package of complete gear delivered magically to my door- that would be all the gear I need to climb any mountain in the world in one package. Everything from down mountaineering suits, mountaineering tents, oxygen masks, the best...

    QR Codes on the Trail

I agree with this completely. Pay .10 for the copy instead of paying for the signs, then a company to carve them, and more. They should be placed at trail heads such as Lincoln Woods or any trail head that already has a kiosk to post the paper. It can serve out its maximum potential use at the...

    Snowshoes in the whites...

Very interesting debate, and never knew there was a rule in the Daks. Last year, when I started my push for the 48 in January, I used snow shoes almost every hike from January through April. This year, I used them once in October to Isolation, and then most recently on the ridge only for the...

The Tripyramid Loop via Livermore Road 3/11/12

Date of hike: 3/11/12 Trail Conditions: Livermore Trail well groomed from Tripoli Road to until it veers left from the groomed system. After that, it was packed out and bare-bootable to the North Slide. The slide had a few inches of soft snow above a hard pack with maybe 3 very small patches of...

Climbing the North Tripyramid North Slide 3/4/12

Grant, awesome report, and I can relate to your opening statement several times, about everything coming together on hikes.

    Headcams

Thanks for sharing that storage product, I'll have to look into that or something similar, even just for use on weekends when I do more than one hike. I have used my GoPro2 I recently purchased now a few times, and the video is awesome, and the options are awesome, I still have to try more of...

Solo Winter Presidential Traverse on President's Day - 2/20/12

Trish - Thank you so much! I hope the Presidentials are just as nice to you as you and Alex go for for your finish next month. Mark - Well, another possible big one could be a winter Wildcat-Carter Traverse, I need those plus Whiteface & Passconaway, The Trips, Cannon and Hale for round 2. I...

Solo Winter Presidential Traverse on President's Day - 2/20/12

Despite consistent winds of 50mph, blowing snow, and a wind chill around -30, I had 120 mile views all day long as I took on the Presidential Traverse, which is something I had been thinking about since the holidays. The trail conditions couldn't have been better. I carried snowshoes, crampons...

Emergency Backup Battery for Cell Phones

No problem, to clarify, the product I linked to is an external rechargeable battery for the Iphone, so it simply plugs into the bottom where the charger would be plugged into. It extends from the bottom, so in terms of using it in the field, it is not ideal if you were still on the move on the...

Emergency Backup Battery for Cell Phones

I sometimes carry an extra rechargeable battery for my Iphone. My Iphone's battery has pretty good life and I have a good sense of it. The one I got was from Brookstone for $40. I haven't needed to use it, but I have carried it on some hikes. My car charger isn't working right now, so it...

    Bartender, I'll have a Tom-Field-Willey with a Tecumseh chaser

Nicely done! I did this trip in reverse order on Saturday starting with Tecumseh at day break. I sledded just about the entire way down Tecumseh (except for the short flat section near the top). Then I went north to Crawford Notch and at 9:30am I started Tom, Field, Willey, and Avalon. I needed...

Zealand and the Bonds from Another Perspective 2/4/12

Excellent trip report and pictures! I easily connected to and really enjoyed your report because I share the same motive, emotion, or approach with challenging hikes. It seems to be clear that we all do based on the resonses! We know that some peaks are just another on the list, but its the...

    Hiker Ed summits 4,000th peak

Amazing stuff! Having hiked nearly 100 4000 footers in slightly over a year, I could not imagine hiking 4000 even in my lifetime. I also can't imagine how many different animals Ed has observed, or how many difficult situations experienced while hiking the peaks. Not a bad choice at all either...
