    Adventurers of the Year-Nat Geo

I'm usually unimpressed by speed records, but that's pretty spectacular! 16-hour days? Beat the existing record by 26 hours? That rocks!

    WMNF....little photo quiz for non-experts

Ah, that would make sense, too. I've never seen it-- always in a cloud when I go over Garfield.

    WMNF....little photo quiz for non-experts

Well then... I'd guess somewhere near Zealand?

    WMNF....little photo quiz for non-experts

Doh! I guess I have some learning to do. Those are some great pics, by the way. Once I find out what they all are, I've got some places to visit!

    WMNF....little photo quiz for non-experts

Dang, this just makes me realize how little I know of the Whites. I can only make guesses on three of those... Let's see: Guyot Campsite, Lafayette from somewhere on Bond, and Washington from somewhere on Madison? Did I get any of those right? Great post! I'm interested in seeing where the...

If you havent done this hike you should!! - Mt Cabot

Glorious! I've been up to Unknown Pond a few times, and the Horn only once... never had a view yet, but I hope I'll get it someday. Isn't it a lovely place?

    Vermont AT management transfer

True, it is all low elevation stuff on that section. And regardless of how well it was maintained, it just seems nice that the Green Mountain Club oversees all of Vermont because it's such a Vermonty group. :)

    Osceola good. Daylight Savings bad.

Thanks guys. I feel like kind of a party pooper sometimes, missing all the group trips announced here, but I'm still holding out for the big trips with your group, Petch. I'll make it one of these days!

    Vermont AT management transfer

This is pretty cool. I remember hearing from folks high up in the GMC trails committee that they didn't care much for how DOC was managing that section of trail. I guess they felt DOC was directing all its effort to the mountains on the NH side of the river, and neglecting the trail in VT. I...

    Osceola good. Daylight Savings bad.

Sure was a gorgeous day! Now, I didn't exactly *forget* my Microspikes... I just didn't have them available to take with me ;) Greeley Pond sounds like a fine destination for the day, too. I need to get up there more often for days like that. Happy Late Fall indeed.

    Osceola good. Daylight Savings bad.

It was a heck of a gorgeous day on Sunday! I went for a short hike to Osceola, "forgetting" my microspikes but otherwise having a blast. Except for trying to figure out when to wake up for the drive. Trip report here. Enjoy!

    Osceola from Tripoli Road

Date of Hike: 11/6/11 Trail Conditions: Clear and frozen to about two-thirds of the way up, then very slick and icy to the top. Special Equipment Required: I made it up bare-booted, but microspikes would have made life a LOT easier. Comments: I was surprised at how bare the ground was on the...

trail conditions on East Osceola from Greeley Ponds?

Glad you asked, because my girlfriend and I are thinking of hitting Osceola from Tripoli Road tomorrow, as well. I'm expecting some amount of walking on Tripoli Road (if not, just as well), but other than that... don't know yet. If you're hitting both summits, Mirabela, maybe I'll see you there :)

+1 to this. I aspire to be like that, but fail miserably :)

Stratton Mountain, VT, a little snowy

Finally got the trip report put together. My first time back to Stratton Mountain since doing trail work there over three years ago. Not quite the homecoming I'd expected, but fun anyway. I'll be sure to go back there a bunch in the next few months. Trip report and photos here. Cheers!

    How Much Snow?

That's pretty amazing. We were lucky here in Keene to escape the power outages that I've heard MA and CT got. The big piles of snow from this morning are almost all gone now, and I guess I can wait a little longer to put my snowshoes to use. Pretty crazy, though. Makes me wonder just what the...

    How Much Snow?

I was at Stratton yesterday, and saw the ski trails at Mount Snow completely white like it was winter. So I'm guessing they'll report around ten feet of snow, right?

    How Much Snow?

14" in Keene, measured just a minute ago. Wheee!!! If only I hadn't left all of my winter gear at my parents' house in Maine when I moved down here. Whoops.

    Snow Tonight!

Dang! And I thought the solid 1/2 inch near Keene was impressive. I wish I had my snowshoes handy... :)

Gettin' Castellated on the Northern Presi's 10/23/2011

That looks awesome! I can't say much more than that. One of these days I'm going to join you and the "9th grade gym class" for another big hike.
