    Whiteface and Passaconaway

Google is not the only authority that sends innocent travelers over Sandwich Notch. A few years ago a neighbor had friends visiting from out west. AAA sent them, their pick-up, and their fifth-wheel, 25' travel trailer through the notch. My advice to those who end up in Sandwich Notch is to...

On rocket's website, the earliest version of "the map" is dated December 15, 2006. Does this prove anything? No. But is the timing consistent? Yes.

Poll on Maps of Conservation Easements

USPS? Tell me about it! They closed the Wonalancet Post Office about 15 years ago. People still haven't gotten over it.

Poll on Maps of Conservation Easements

This is exactly why I voted for "other." Some of the other choices might be perfectly acceptable but what does the easement say?

RE: number of maps FYI: In February Mr. Garrison told me he had printed 3600 maps. Personally, I think the number left is of minor relevence to the issues at hand but I thought I'd pass it on. And the number he printed doesn't account for the number copied from the web.

Incorrect. The owner must be identified. Both signs identify an owner and give contact information. Do these maps give floor plans? Do these maps imply you can use their bathroom?

    Increased Bear Activity

This fits well with the recent "bee invasion" thread. I've never seen so many ground wasp nests torn up by bears as I have this summer. The bears have also been going after the squaw root (Conopholis americana) that has been doing better than usual this summer. Don't they know it's on the state...

I stated that the landowners are reading this thread in my first post and I reiterated it in others. Waumbek and Darren (and others I may have missed) have pointed out that landowners well beyond the Ossipees are reading this thread. Thank you. I'd add to your reputation but the computer tells...

You and I have been down this road before, Roy. As I have already said, you are entitled to your opinion. If WODC wants to get involved in this, that's their decision. I'm willing to do some on-site mitigation work regardless of who sponsors it. The landowners are reading this thread; they have...

That’s parsing words very finely, and in the case of the land outlined in orange, I don’t think it applies. There are four landowners who recently (within the last 5 months +/-) posted their land in that area. Three told me they posted in response to activities of Mr. Garrison. The fourth said...

CCRD doesn't have on-line access for its records. A visit to the county office complex in Ossipee will get you the information you want. I'll have time later in the week to do this but meanwhile, if someone else in the area beats me to it, I would sure appreciate it.

Re: the Concord Monitor article. It barely scratches the surface. I have been told by two landowners and one agent (caretaker/land manager) of a third landowner that they encountered Mr. Garrison on their property and informed him that they wanted no trail work and no mapping on their property...

I have attached a screen shot of the Ossipees taken from the GRANIT data mapper. I hope it shows up. Green shade is conservation land. I added a red outline around land identified by GRANIT as owned by Chocorua Forestlands. 5000+/- of these acres (easternmost) make up the Forest Legacy tract...

You wanna be my friend? Cool with me. Just keep in mind that I'm a troublemaker, I never remember birthdays, I get moody, I'm broke and always borrowing money, I'm passive-aggressive (whatever that means), I have a high carbon footprint...

Yes, it does seem counter to the intention of protecting a tail corridor. I don't know that I can give you a satisfactory answer but I'll do my best. A conservation easement can be intended to protect any number of natural resources. In the Forest Legacy program, these can include "essential...

I'm fairly certain that yes, it does include this tract. Note that both the Trails Bureau press release and the USFS pdf reference Bayle Mountain. Also note that the TB press release doesn't mention the snowmobile trail. There is a separate agreement with the state beyond the Forest Legacy...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

This is certainly a bone of contention with the landowners. My own admittedly pessimistic opinion is that it’s a little late to be closing the barn door. However, removing the map(s) from the internet and witholding them from commercial distribution would be construed as an act of good faith.

I had the opportunity to speak with a representative of Chocorua Forestlands three days ago. According to him, the main reason for the closure can be found in the thread linked to above by NewHampshire. The good news is that our discussion centered on how the Chocorua Forestlands and the other...
