    ice ax training

I gave up on the rope. I found it too difficult to lasso a passing tree or boulder while sliding down a steep slope at a high rate of speed. Wait... did I misunderstand? :D -Steve

    Long Trail 12

I did my E2E southbound last summer during the same weeks that you have planned. I started at Journey's End road trailhead late in the afternoon on July 29th and got into Williamstown before noon on August 23rd (26 days). I had one zero-day in Rutland and I stayed off trail three nights - 1 in...

Bonnie! Doesn't look like I'll make it. My daughter is off to college in 3 weeks and there's still too much to do to get her ready. Also, I've been working on the kayak all summer and I'm trying to get it finished up by the end of the warm weather. It's too bad - I had some momentum built up...

    Winter Bivy Thread

Just to clarify: That wasn't me that spent the night on Moosilauke. I do, however, carry a foil emergency bivy and hope that I would handle a forced overnight as well as the poster that was benighted on the Moose. -Steve

    Wildcat Ridge Trail

If you're not opposed to the cost, you could park at Pinkham and take the shuttle to the 19-Mile Brook trailhead. I did it this way when I did a Carter-Wildcat traverse last summer (I took the shuttle to Gorham however). BTW, on the descent into Pinkham Notch via the Wilcat Ridge Trail there is...
