    Mt. Washington Road Race

Hi all, It was a spectacular day up on the Rock Pile Saturday for the annual road race. My wife was running it for the first time. (We both put our names in, but only she was picked!) Anyway, the weather was so nice I was able to get some great shots of the day, including the male and female...

By road and by trail, we tackle Pack Monadnock

Hi Surf, thanks! Yes, my wife said that though the back woods and rolling hills were pretty, maintaining a strict pace was darn hard! And once she got to the mountain, forget it! All that said, she wants to do it again next year! Crazy lady! Dan

Last weekend, we took the twins on an adventure to visit some friends in Philadelphia. Along the way, we made stops at the highpoints of New Jersey and Delaware! I thought some folks here might have an interest in our trip report on the highpoints. It's long and covers our whole trip. The...

Black Mountain in Benton and the perfect hike!

Hi Michael - Yes, I can imagine how nice that must be in the winter, mellow grades, good snow cover over the ledges! We will have to try it. And she got the hat for Christmas and is quite proud of it. I call her Little Rooster.

Black Mountain in Benton and the perfect hike!

Hi Grouse! Yeah, you're right. We kicked around on a bunch of ledges up there, but there's soooo many of them who knows if we ended up on the one you have in mind. It's an amazing summit! We do want to go back and check out that view of Moosilauke in the fall, that would be amazing.

    52 WAV patch?

Thanks everyone! Michelle - I considered beginning with the Fire Tower list as that's a fun one, but once she got a taste of Dickey-Welsh and Monadnock, that was it for her. It's just up, up, up now. I'm not sure how long I'll even be able to keep her to the 52WAV list before she demands an...

    52 WAV patch?

Now that there is a nine-year-old hiker in our life who has decided to tackle the 52 WAV list, I was wondering if there is (or ever was) a patch for completion? There isn't anything about it on the Over the Hill Hikers blog so I was just curious. Dan

    I got the dehydration blues....

Hey Ellen and Ricky, come to think of it, I had heard about the pinch in reference to a cat we used to own who was getting old. The vet pinched his skin near his shoulder blades and discovered he was dehydrated. Hmmm, will have to try that on myself from now on :) And nope, that's not something...

    I got the dehydration blues....

Ok, so here's a tale of something we all deal with, usually in the mountains though! On Friday I got a pretty sudden and nasty swollen throat to the point of having trouble swallowing. Doc said it was some kind of viral infection like Strep and put me on anti-biotics. BUT, since I could barely...

Thanks everyone! So to sum up: run up stairs! Alot! Looks like have a walking break or two would be helpful. John: How did you end up doing? Did you set a goal for yourself during training, did you run a half or full marathon before hand o was Washington your first big race?
