    Flume Gorge Loop

Leaf - Yup, even closed, you can go down stairs at the top of the big falls to the boardwalk and walk along about 30 feet to where a STOP sign is posted. Technically, you can climb under the STOP sign and walk another ten feet or so to where the actual boardwalk is pulled up. DougPaul - The...

    Flume Gorge Loop

Hi Donna - We are indeed looking forward to going back. Now if only it would snow already! Thanks for your thoughts about our little run in. No problem, the girl and I both learned some lessons :) Hi Leaf - Is that true, they bring the whole thing up? A small section of about 20 feet was taken...

    Flume Gorge Loop

Hi Nartreb, very good thank you! Those are some great tips to remember when I bring the kids back. I plan on keeping them on the boardwalk, but some traction even there will be needed. I never considered that there'd be falling man-made objects! I admit it sounds pretty neat to go there and...

    Flume Gorge Loop

After last week's stressful, police filled hike, I decided to return to the Whites and do the Flume Gorge Loop. Somehow, after living in New Hampshire for 12 years, I've never managed to get to the Flume. What a wonderful place, particularly in the winter! Here's our report and pics: Flume Gorge...

    Urban trail clean-up event

Manchester Urban Explorations: Nutts Pond Trail and an encounter with boys in blue

Hi Michelle, that's funny you should mention Cedar Swamp! We actually thought about doing that instead of Nutts Pond since it's right around the corner of where we live! But we decided, as you said, to wait until spring to see the rhodies! Thanks for the link. That's def on our list now!

Manchester Urban Explorations: Nutts Pond Trail and an encounter with boys in blue

Hi Grouse, it's all good. The police were very kind and polite. It was good ultimately for Janelle to have a positive experience with them. But you're right, there was a time when that pond was surrounded by farmland and used as a little wilderness refuge near the city. Since I posted this...

Manchester Urban Explorations: Nutts Pond Trail and an encounter with boys in blue

"When the third police officer arrived and Janelle instinctively began to inch closer to me, I couldn’t help but wonder how I had gotten us into this mess, and how I was going to get us out." Sometimes a simple hike becomes much, much more. A very special post on EKP for this morning's Monday...

    Urban explorations in Manchester

Surf - I kicked around down in Stark Park last fall and a had a ball down by he river there as well. Several well made river swings along that path! Maybe I'll do a follow up! Becca - Thanks! Just trying to figure out ways to get i the woods close to home! Grouse - Maybe I'll do a trail report...

    Urban explorations in Manchester

Thanks Grouse... there's a lot to explore along that river. I've followed a trail in the other direction all the way up to Goffstown last year. Are you up that way?

    Urban explorations in Manchester

This weekend, with a couple hours of time on my hands and a boiling hot December day, I took the kids on a different kind of woods hike. We decided to explore the deeply urban hiking trails of Piscataquog River Park in Manchester. This is what we found: www.ekpadventures.com Hope you all enjoy...

Hi Karl, this hike is on our list, nice job! Did you happen to find the mystery rock with the plaque put there supposedly by Betty Davis?
