New Hampshire Fish and Game Search and Rescue Funding Hearing

The Discovery Pass is restricting access to State land only, by the State. I think the problem is, 46% of the current rescues occur in the WMNF. The state of NH can't enforce any type of access restrictions or pay for use on federal lands.

I'm in the process of setting up a fund right now. I'm going to call it “The Craig's trying to figure out WTF is going on with the SAR issue, fund”. Accepting donations shortly. :) I understand if you don't have time to read all this, but I tried to give everyone a readers digest version way...

New Hampshire Fish and Game Search and Rescue Funding Hearing

Gathering factual information is tedious So why has everyone been saying, for years, that SAR is funded by Hunters and Fisherman? The F&G department was mandate with SAR responsibility in 1971. The SAR fund was established in 1989 to (presumably) track the money spent specifically on SAR...

The EPA is continuing to update this information as factual information becomes available. If you have the time or the interest in this subject, you may want to...

It sucks trying to sway folks to your contrarian POV when you can't flip out reams of data to support it – don't it? :) lol

Your statement suggests that the legislature will be open to funding SAR through an indirect mechanism. IMO - ain't gonna happen for the reasons stated above.

Why is everyone picking on hikers? The F&G department was established in 1935. The F&G department was mandated with the responsibility of coordinating SAR operations in 1971. The SAR fund was established in 1989. From 1989 – 2006 the SAR fund had a surplus of money at the end of every year...

Performing high-risk rescues: 'It's the New Hampshire way'

Tagging hikers that stay at AMC backcountry accommodations would (in effect) target a very small subset of the hiking community wouldn't it? That small subset would probably be out-of-state upwardly mobile folks, wouldn't it? What about the vast majority of hikers and walkers that probably...

Let me just say this first – these funds (aka dedicated accounts) are for accounting purposes. They allow the legislature to see where the money is coming from and where it's going. RSA 206:42 effectively directs the state treasure to take the $1 surcharge from OHRV, snowmobile and boat...

More Examples The Fish and Game department has 22 different funds (aka dedicated accounts). Each account serves a specific user group and each account is funded from that user group. Examples: Account: Statewide public boat access - RSA 233-A:13 Purpose: Public Boat Access Program Fee: Five...

New Hampshire Fish and Game Search and Rescue Funding Hearing

The Fish and Game department provides services related to Fishing and Hunting. The culture is, that the legislature wants the individuals receiving those services to pay for them. They achieve that through fishing and hunting licenses. The entire Fish and Game department is set up this way...

Coca Cola nixes bottle ban for Grand Canyon

This is a well written article on this issue that helps to illuminates the relationship of concessions and NPS officials. Jon Jarvis is knee deep in this "Pile O' Crap" as he was in the Rainier "Pile O' Crap. What he's saying is, that banning water bottles in the Grand Canyon will set a...

Chip - you are correct. Hunters, fisherman and ORV users do not get a free pass if they require rescue and are found "negligent" under current law. We were only proposing that as part of Creag Nan Drochaid proposal.

Although I think it's clear that revenues from a hiker card aren't going to balance the SAR fund, I do believe there is value in its implementation. I am a firm believer in education as a component of lowering health and safety accidents/incidents. Therefore, I believe any long term solution to...

Lets look at this together Creag Nan Drochaid - I hope you weren't offended by my course responses. If you were, I apologize. I like your proposal, but I didn't want to sell it. I wanted you to sell it. If this issue was easy, it would have been solved long ago. I've put some numbers...

Creag Nan Drochaid - The problem is, Tim gave you the heads up on Friday that this would be an issue. You had all weekend to do your homework. Here I am on Monday asking important, substantive questions that you can't answer. I'm going hungry on your half of loaf.

Creag Nan Drochaid - You're preaching to the choir right now. Leave the bullsh@t at the door for now. We want to see numbers. Show us your yearly revenues using your 4 different hiker cards x the cost per card x the number of cards sold annually.
