    D'oh !!!

Hey Forestnome, I know what you're talking about. I have a Tokina 12-24 lens that happens to be my absolute favorite, but I have to pay attention to where and when I can use the flash. Outside as a fill flash is usually OK, but dark or inside shots with flash as primary light source...forget...

Lost Hiker on Mt Lafayette - FOUND!

Stevehiker you may have a point...I also wonder, with the number of members here, how many local people (lurkers?) may be in the mountains in addition to all of us? Don't know how anyone could come up with a number, but I would think most winter hikers would be a part of this site.

Lost Hiker on Mt Lafayette - FOUND!

Sli, I totaly agree. I don't think people's comments have been insensitive or with some kind of evil intent. I just think that there's always something you can pick up on regardless of one's level of experience. Getting disoriented happens. I remember a Catskill hike after a heavy ice, wind, and...

    Cliff: Almost!

Yes, it's always better to turnaround when things aren't going quite as planned. I wouldn't even think it as a failure or anything.Glad you guys made it out all safe and sound. As they say, the mountains aren't going anywhere.

    Saw my first bobcat

Hey good for you! I've been lucky to see them three times in the catskills over the years, really cool. January seems to be the month, though I've seen them twice in summer. Have you ever heard their eery howl at night? It's a bit freaky!!!

    Denali Nat'l Park in winter?

Hey David, thanks. I guess you're right about the pics of the past. Of the near 5,000 shots I took in the past year or so, well there should be a few that I should have shared. I gotta make the time and set them up. Definately when I get back! -Tony

    Denali Nat'l Park in winter?

It's all sounding so good! I'm staying in Fairbanks but have no problem traveling to the southern end of the park (depending on gas and weather). I plan on taking tons of pictures. Guess I'll be setting up on webshots and spending quite some time on the computer when we return. Thanks!

    Denali Nat'l Park in winter?

Anyone been to Denali NP in winter? Heading up to Alaska for the first time in February and looking for some day hikes in the area. Trying to fit in a day or two of semi long (short daylight) and maybe one or two days of scenic drives with the family. Not sure if the Park road is open or not...
