    Great Range Traverse: 7/17 - 7/19

Does spotting a bear rip garbage to shreds in Blairstown count? :o

    Great Range Traverse: 7/17 - 7/19

Yeah, this was the first time I saw a bear in the wild. I was a bit disturbed by the fact that it was totally unaffected by human presence. :(

    Great Range Traverse: 7/17 - 7/19

Hey, thanks. Back in May when I hiked the Devil's Path, I thought there's no way the Great Range could be harder than this. Well, I was wrong. :D I think I'm going to stick to hiking in New Jersey for a while.

    Harriman Long Path Traverse

I've been on a "trailbagging" binge lately. First it was the R-D in Harriman, then it was the Devil's Path, next was a Shawangunk traverse, and most recently, a Great Range traverse; all within the span of two months or so. This Fall I'll be doing an S-BM traverse in Harriman, so I figure I...

    Online web picture sites

Sorry, you're right. My own personal site has the same problem. Perhaps I should go in and modify it now. I think vBulletin is written in PHP, so in that case, it probably implements setcookie() to apply the set-cookie field to the response header. The "domain" argument for setcookie() says...

    Online web picture sites

It's not just vBulletin; it's all websites. The issue has to do with cookies. Say you login at "www.vftt.org". The cookies are stored in your browser under the domain "www.vftt.org". However, if you visit simply "vftt.org" (same website but without the "www"), you're no longer logged in...

    Great Range Traverse: 7/17 - 7/19

Here's a brief trip report from my Great Range traverse. Thursday: Jeff and I left Jersey at around 9 AM and arrived in the Adirondacks by 2 PM. We parked at the Garden and hiked out to Bushnell Falls where we spent the night. While setting up my hammock, a bear walked by me just 30 or so...

    Turtle Thread

Yes, I believe that tentacle thing on its shell is a leech. I saw a snapping turtle over here in Jersey last week while hiking to Boulder Pine Peak and it had a leech stuck on the back of its shell.

    Septo-turbino Plasty

Rarely do I breathe through my nose while engaging in physical activity; it feels perpetually stuffy and I don't get enough throughput. So, I just use my other breathing orifice. :) Maybe you just need to do some cardio?

    Great Range: Hammock Friendly Sites

Funny! Perhaps I should have rephrased it. Where can I camp along the Great Range that isn't a nasty, nasty thicket of spruce. You're right. I found a thread on adkhighpeaks from a year or two ago that listed some reliable water sources: "Reliable water: Deer Brook, near the Hedgehog-LWJ col...

    Great Range: Hammock Friendly Sites

Hi all, I'm going to attempt a 3-day Great Range traverse in a few weeks. I'm wondering where are good camping options and more specifically, what sites are hammock friendly.

    Katahdin: Baxter Peak - 6/22/08

Thanks, Jason. It definitely was a blast. It's been a year since the last time I was in the Appalachians of New England and since I've been above 5,000 feet. Gas was seriously expensive for this trip. Next time around, I ought to stay a bit longer to make up for the cost of fuel.

    Katahdin: Baxter Peak - 6/22/08

So I finally climbed Katahdin this weekend. My friend and I decided to do it on a whim, leaving just two days for preparation. I'm surprised my '93 Honda Accord made the 1,100 mile round trip. We camped out at Katahdin Stream Campground on Saturday night and woke up around 5:30 AM on Sunday...

    Baxter Conditions? (Katahdin & Doubletop)

Hi all, I'm heading up to Maine this weekend to do Baxter Peak via the Hunt with a side trip the next day to Doubletop. Does anyone know what the trail conditions are like? This is my first time to Baxter. I made reservations already for a campground.

    Gunks - Traversed!

It was a pleasure and an honor to meet all of you very accomplished hikers yesterday. You folks have inspired me to continue to pursue my hiking endeavors, full speed ahead. If only I had gotten more than 3 hours of sleep the night before. Man, was I tired! :o Here are just two pics from...

    Devil's Path: 5/25/08 - 5/27/08

Jay, Thanks! I do believe that the R-D traverse we did a few weekends back helped me prepare for this trip. Probably more mentally than physically. Al, I figured at least one person I met on the trail would be a VFTT member! :D Jeff told me that he asked you which traverse is more...

    Devil's Path: 5/25/08 - 5/27/08

Well folks, here's my trip report from my first successful DP traverse. My camera crapped out two pictures into the trip, so I have here posted the pictures from my friend, Jeff. Sunday - West Kill & Southwest Hunter: We started our journey at the Spruceton Road trailhead. Climbing West Kill...

    Catskill loops with bicycle returns

I'm not familiar with any bike routes in the Catskills but I'm wondering if anyone here has ever rode through Deep Notch on 42. On my way back from the Cats on Tuesday, I drove through Deep Notch and I had my car in neutral, cruising all the way down to Route 28 at a steady 45 MPH. The whole...
