    SAR in Franconia Notch?

As of this weekend, croo stated baked goods revenue and tips are managed separately. I didn't inquire as to the ultimate destination of each, but all should take care to direct their monies into the proper stream.

    SAR in Franconia Notch?

Absolutely. I'm tsking at them for not knowing it, not at you for not conducting a cliffside lesson. It's part of the age-old story that what you need to know and carry in the backcountry 95% of the time is a fraction of what you need to cover the 100%....

The Cog is in the news again for potenitally unpermitted building

That would sounds like a reasonable path forward given that disagreements among parties seem to be growing and it might make sense to get it all out there and sort things out. Of course part of the tension seems to be coming down to differences of interpretation on previous agreements and where...

    Busy SAR 2019 Season Continues

The F&G press release is usually the final word. Sometimes the subject will speak to the press (which it looks like happened here); sometimes F&G will make another statement if they decide to charge; and sometimes the Accidents editor for Appalachia will decide to write an event up and do some...

Mountains that have had their "summits" moved

Sorry, I got my easts and wests backwards. To anybody frightened, this doesn't happen when I'm holding a map, but when I'm working off memory for something where the approach is from the north (i.e. south is forward/"up") it's an occasional issue.

Mountains that have had their "summits" moved

Was Scar Ridge a swap? I thought the canister was on the west bump because the east one was so flat that the summit was somewhat indeterminate.

John Oliver - Mount Everest discussion

Cases I'm familiar with aren't just unethical but illegal (trespassing), e.g. Shiprock, Pueblo peak and the two other 12000-footers on Taos Pueblo land.

    2019 Black Fly Season

Did you use them as bait to catch some leeches? Hedgehog Sunday was definitely mostly mosquitos although some black flies. They were thirsty, too; I've got some nasty welts.

    Observatory Sues Cog

The optimist in me thinks that getting this all out into court and sorted might "clear the air" and enable a more harmonious relationship. The pessimist remembers the summit rights issues have been "settled" several times before but it never seems to "stick". The fight over the location of PNSY...

    Lafayette Place Parking and Shuttle

This is starting to defeat the purpose of having a shoulder. That's an awful lot of crap to drive through if you get a flat and need to pull over.

    Mosquito Netting For Tarp Camping

Your best reference is probably Ray Jardine. He renames the book with every edition and I believe the current is called Trail Life. In the past I've used the Mombasa Defender which is a simple single-hang drape net, attaching it to a point on the tarp using Grip Clips. The tick situation has...

Fatality on Mt Washington in Huntingtons Ravine

I have been of that theory. I took a glacier travel class a few weeks ago and the (deeply experienced) instructors suggested I swap on my crampons, based on the theory that if the straps are on the outside they can catch on the environment. The comments in the article also seemed to be opposed...
