    Black Snout/Snoot???

Views Nice views of Winnipesaukee from Black Snout, though I think there are better views from Tate/Big Ball Mtn. The trail between the two is nice and worth the walk. (Banana Tr.) I did the Shaw/Snout/Tate loop on Sunday, very nice, 3 cars in the lot when we went up, 22 when we came down! Wow...

Mt. Livermore loop via Prescott Tr. and Old Mtn Rd. 4/23/09

All trails are snow/ice free. Some wet areas on Old Highway and also on the lower sections of Prescott Tr. and Old Mtn. Rd., but I managed to keep my feet dry. Great 4.5 mile loop with nice views of Squam lake from the summit of Mt. Livermore and along the Crawford-Ridgepole trail as the trees...

    Piper, Belknap and Gunstock

Various trails hiked on 3/17 and 3/18 with Crystal and Priscilla Conditions: Piper Trail - 100% snow/ice free Old Piper Tr - small amount of ice Piper Link and Round Pond Link - basically snow free, maybe 2 small patches of snow and lots of branches down (we couldn't move all of them or we'd...

    bulk food

Very fast, I'd say 5 min in your boiling water or dinner and they are done. I've used seperately the corn, peas, carrots but the "mixed veggies" are the best. Toss 1/2 cup in with any meal as your pasta/rice/whatever is cooking and its all done at the same time, even if they don't rehydrate all...

    bulk food

here's another place, all veggies/fruit, but it's good stuff. The co-op here in town sells them, so no shipping. The corn is sweet enough to eat right out of the package. They mix well into you own homemade trail meals. http://www.justtomatoes.com/dried_vegetables.html

    AT is getting longer

Yeah, it's called the Eastern Continental Trail, about 5400 miles long and quite a few miles of road walking in the southern parts. I don't know the guy below (looks like he's from MA though) but this link was on Nimblewill Nomad's website, and he's going for the whole thing this year, looking...

    SRKG sections 10 and 11 - 3/15/09

A great 12 mile hike up and over Kearsarge to finish the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway on a beautiful winter day! Section 10 from Proctor Academy to the base of Kearsarge was easily bare booted due to our early start and hard-packed snow conditions. Trail pretty easy to follow, stay to the...

    Northern Coastal Maine

Geddy's - what a great place!! I was in Rockland, ME on Friday and there was still snow on the ground, not a lot.........maybe 8 inches or so, but it was there..........2 days of bright sunshine might have melted some!

    Hiking Skirts

I picked up a Sierra Designs "hiking skirt" a few years back, I've worn it hiking a few times, but it's a wrap-around and definately not reccommended on breezy days. It's comfortable and all, just not what I'd call a "hiking skirt". I have another from Title Nine (which does have some great...

Mt. Kearsarge via Barlow Tr. 3/1/09

Trail is hard packed to the summit, but post-holed and more or less......a mess! About 4 trees to duck under, 1 to step over. Small amount of ice once you hit the ledgy summit area, but it was easy to walk around or on the bare rock. We barebooted and had no problems. Small amount of wind, but...

A Different Kind of Big Mountain Experience

Squaw Valley and Granite Chief! Nice! Skiing the PCT! Sounds like a blast! I used to ski all the time, then got into the whole winter hiking thing and the prices of lift tickets sky-rocketed and hiking was free..........and so, I hike! But still love to hear about the fun times on the slopes!

Peaked Mtn. via Peaked Mtn & Middle Mtn trails 1/31/09

1/31/09 Peaked Mtn., connector and Middle Mtn trails broken out. Pretty happy to see cars in the parking area and trails well traveled. (trail over to Black Cap not broken, but the one up Middle Mtn was) Snowshoes still useful as the trail seems pretty soft underfoot. Great network of trails...

Ragged Mtn from New Canada Rd via Ridge Tr. 1/30/09

1/30/09 Just as much snow on this side of the mountain as the other side we broke out yesterday! Beautiful track up to the summit/ski area, snowshoes are definately still needed. Small area to park was plowed out right across from the trailhead. Trail easy to follow and well blazed, it does...

West Peak Ragged Mtn from Proctor Academy 1/29/09

About 15 inches of fresh unbroken powdery snow Trail easy to follow (esp now) as it's mostly a wide open old road/ski trail. Blazes are white and around shin/knee level. Snowshoes definately still needed, quite the workout today, Neighbor broke trail all the way up and I'm still exhausted...

    All NAtural Energy Drinks

Have to agree with you grouseking! Nuun tablets don't leave that sugary aftertaste either, I'm a fan of them, esp the Wild Berry and the Kona Cola! (cola sounds gross, but it's actually pretty tasty!!)

    Too cold to hike?

Chickening out! I just had 2 layers of skin fall off the tip of my middle finger from our Goose Eye adventure on the first of the year.....(it was cold and windy that day and I couldn't feel the tip of my finger for 24 hours after) Sooooooo, I think I'll let some skin grow back on the ole...

    2009 Year in Preview...

2009 Wants and wishes of 2009??? Hmmmm. Well, we did have to skip 233 miles of closed PCT due to lots of random and crazy wildfires. 3 seperate fires for us, and we were lucky.......we got through a few burning areas before the Forest Service closed them down to hikers completely. So, it is...

The Year 2008 in Review - Post away!

2008 2008 was another good year, managing to hike the PCT with Neighbor/postr'boy and avoid any major injuries. We met and hiked with so many wonderful people including Nimblewill Nomad and Billygoat. We slept on the summit of Mt. Whitney witnessing one amazing sunset and sunrise. The Sierras...
