    Ore Hill shelter burned down

That's funny, I too was at Ore Hill shelter on 10/22/11, went in/out from cape moonshine road. It looked great, took some pictures of it, no sign of anyone "living" there. Really too bad as it was in great shape. :(

Made me think, "hmmm, wonder how those batteries are working in that headlamp" :) If you like...

Moose Encounters on Carrigain. October 25, 2011

What a great encounter!! They are such massive animals and that's for the normal sized adult!! I startled a bull moose on Al Merrill loop over the weekend, and yep, this time of year, the encounters make me a little bit more nervous than usual! Beautiful animals though :)

    "Trail Angels" documentary

The well-known trail angels are just awesome and give more of themselves than you think could be humanly possible at times. It's great that this film finally puts the spotlight on them. They are an amazing help to every passing hiker and barely ask for anything in return, they just love the...

    Mt St Helens (WA) -pics

Great report! Nice to see what the terrain looks like, we were hoping to hike it last year on a whim when in Portland but were really unsure what terrain we were getting into (in sneakers and shorts) :) One thing led to another and the hike was not possible, just figured it was meant to be and...

What (or who) got you hiking?

I'd say it's all my dad's fault! :) I started tagging along on the annual family hike up to Tuckerman's Ravine to watch the skiiers at age 11 and took it from there!! We still have the annual family hike!
