Trip to Nepal for free and get my job back? SURE! Sign me up..........the actual attempt at the summit? Nah, I'll pass on that and just wander around for the month or so, down low where I can breathe without an oxygen
tank strapped to my back!! Take lots of pictures and enjoy the scenery!!
Wow! First....Congratulations, what a beautiful day it was for such a great finish!!!
And second.......what a story/ordeal! You are one lucky guy! It's amazing what comes in handy in the "first aid" kit! That's called using all your resources!! (I've been known to do that before too) :)...
Yes! Lots of snow in them there hills!!
Mohamed - Good luck if you head to Moriah tomorrow, I look forward to any info you'll be able to pass along.
A couple of us are hoping to hike Moriah via Stony Brook on Friday as a "last winter hike of the season" hike.......and we also were concerned...
Oh Summer.......how I miss you!!!
New (to-me) trails......(always on the to-do list....and always so much fun)
More of the Cohos Trail (slowly but surely getting there!)
Trip back to CA (little bit of un-finished business with the PCT)
Trailwork! Trail magic! and anything else trail related I...
Hmmm, that trail is part of the Cohos Trail, I wonder how that will be dealt with.......would be a shame to just road walk Cherry Mtn Rd and miss the great terrain up there........
I second the Peaked/Middle Mtn. option, while the others are great fun/great views, this is something a little different (and usually well travelled/broken out by the locals)
Hey!! Glad to see you made it! Sweden was a blast...........cold blast..........but a blast! Time to hit the trails again after all the butter and sweet cream of Scandanavia! ha ha! See you out there! :) Michelle
I was wondering the same thing today (but not for snowshoes.........for a pair of "cute" boots) and after some research on the REI site, read that it isn't until the begining of March!!! Wow, not sure I can wait that long!
Priscilla and I broke trail on the above trails, roughly a foot of fresh powder, stream crossings do-able (involved some ungraceful jumping as the water is still flowing).
Fun loop hike, snowed all day long, didn't see anyone else (and our cars were the only ones in either lot...Appalachia and...
Wow, first I've heard of this. How sad. Washington sure looked cold and blustery on Saturday, that is for sure.
On a personal note, Dr. Walczak was a great person. Once he knew you liked to hike, his eyes just lit up, he got this big smile and could talk forever, oh the hiking stories! It...
I've been very happy with my Montbell UL down jacket, light, warm, super-compressable, no complaints from me, got it on sale, great after hike, sitting around the tent/staying warm piece of gear.
Neighbor and I went from the West, yes a long day, managed to hit quite a few thick spots (and prob. that same blowdown patch as you Carole!!) but we did find a jar on the summit and lots of pine needles down our shirts!!
Love it!!
Neighbor carried it from Mexico to Canada last year, the thing is still going strong!! (besides a few holes chewed through the screen from crazy mice in Washington state, it's in great condition) Plenty of room for 2 and having your own entry/vestibule is wonderful. There are lighter...
Nice little 2 mile loop in good shape......until you come to the bog bridges on the farside of the loop, obviously put there due to a wet area, well after 2 days of rain and being spring......the first few bridges are "safe", the ones in the middle of the wet area are not...they are...
snow free all the way through!
Up Tremont Trail, lots of fallen branches and blowdowns, moved as many as we could. Great views from the summit!
Steep down Brunel Trail to Owl's Cliff, couple blowdowns, overgrown in the col, have to keep an eye out for the blazes in there.
Nice views from Owl's...
