    Backpacking Colorado Wilderness

Maybe Steve will chime in, but in any case, I will post the link to his pictures/trip report from the Weminuche Wilderness a few years ago. His trip was also in June and I believe that's part of the reason he choose the Weminuche Wilderness.

Italy's Dolomites, Alta Via 2 Route

FYI, for what it's worth we're doing the AV2 around the same time frame and haven't made reservations. We plan to call ahead once we are there. Buy the Gillian Price guide to help plan - it's actually pretty straight forward and can save you a lot of money!

    Plus size women's winter gear?

Hey folks. I have a friend who is buying some clothing for an upcoming vacation to Iceland. Cold temps and she will be out photographing the auroras at night, so mix of walking to sites and standing around while taking pictures. She's having a hard time finding thermal layer and snow/ski pants...

    Little kid sleeping bag

We could definitely swing a southern VT trip and I would love to plan something. Our daughter enjoys the outdoors, but I think she would love it even more if she had another kid to explore/play with (I think your daughter is around the same age?). I've been to Stratton Mtn many moons ago, but...

    Little kid sleeping bag

We have the Mountain Hardwear Mountain Goat for our daughter (she's five) and it's worked well so far. I wish the folks posting lived closer to us - I would to plan a trip with other kids!!

Italy's Dolomites, Alta Via 2 Route

We ran into that problem with the TMB when we did it as well. We didn't have any problems in the Dolomites (we also traveled in September last time). The only time we called ahead was for the weekends and the people at the huts were helpful in doing that. Our biggest problem was some of the huts...

Italy's Dolomites, Alta Via 2 Route

We did part of the Alta Via 1 in 2011 and are returning this year for part of the AV2. Our daughter will be hiking on her own this time so we are keeping our daily mileage reasonable. We've found planning easy enough and haven't paid for any services. We rely on public transportation and have no...

Your Top Ten Photos of 2012!

Thanks Natron, NeoAkela, and Driver8! Driver8, looks like you had some good outings this year! I like the Lincoln and Gargoyles pictures. We have a Canon T3i and use either a 17-85mm or 18-55 lens (often with a circular polarizer). Sunshine Chris, like that last pic with the snowy trees...

Your Top Ten Photos of 2012!

I always love these threads! Hard to choose, but here are ten of my photos: Watching in awe as Castle Geyser erupts at sunrise in Yellowstone: Sunrise from Alstrom Point overlooking Lake Powell near Page, Arizona: A sunbeam in Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona: "Follow the yellow...

Patagonia Paines del Torre circuit--March 2013

No hotel or day trip recommendations, but we did do the circuit back in 2007. It was an awesome trip! You'll have a great time. :)

Canadian Rockeies - Banff Area Ideas and Guide Recommendations

Love the Canadian Rockies - you will have an awesome trip! You've already gotten a lot of good advice. Our favorite park was actually Assiniboine (adjacent to Banff), although this area requires multiple nights. A close second was Lake O'Hara. Even if you don't get a spot on the bus, check in...

TR: A hodge podge two week Wyoming adventure

Thanks everybody for the kind words! :) Where did you go in the Winds? When was your trip? Did you run into a lot of smoke? Thanks! And I don't know about guts - I spooked myself for those night shots so didn't do as much as I had intended. I was by myself at Oxbow Bend and while I...

TR: A hodge podge two week Wyoming adventure

Thanks! There are two short off trail routes that provide the bird's eye view. After looking up pictures we thought one looked better than the other. It's a short, steep scramble up a burned hill to the southwest of the Grand Prismatic. Kind of a pain - packed dirt (i.e. slick), lots of...

    2012 Mt Kenya, Africa adventure

Wow - what a great experience! Loved the pictures. I was a little :-O at chasing cape buffalo with rocks, lol.

TR: A hodge podge two week Wyoming adventure

Thanks everybody! Our first week in the Beartooths/Yellowstone was really hazy from smoke. We drove through the Tetons on way to the Wind River Range and couldn't even see the Tetons! We were pretty worried about visibility in the Wind River Range, but for whatever reason, it was clear down...

TR: A hodge podge two week Wyoming adventure

In August we returned to Montana and Wyoming for our fourth annual trip. Our two weeks were a mix of hiking, backpacking, running, fishing, geyser gazing, and sightseeing in the Beartooth Mountains, the Wind River Range, Yellowstone, and the Tetons. All our pictures with trip notes are posted...
