Grand Canyon - South Kaibab/Bright Angel Loop Day Hike

Really nice report. I am taking my 4 year old on the same trip during the first week of March this year. Although, we'll be doing it over 4 days. We'll stay two nights at Phantom Ranch Campground and do a day hike from there. We can't wait and my little girl keeps talking about hiking in the...

I love these threads and seeing everybody's photos (and thanks for linking the past threads, I've been looking at them instead of cleaning like I'm supposed to be doing :P). I guess I'll kick things off with some of my favorites from the year .... 1. Lone bison in Yellowstone 2. Visitors...

    Your favorite photo of 2011

I'm enjoying the pictures - especially the bear, owl, and Salty. There are probably 20 pictures I could pick as my favorite, but I'll go with this one for now:

    Your favorite photo of 2011

I always love seeing everybody's photos (although Chip, I'm not sure what to make of yours, lol). Really difficult to pick one. I think I'll have to abstain for now, lol.

Tour du Mont Blanc Planning Q's

No language requirements. Pick up a language book (this one is handy as it has both French and Italian: Rick Steves' French, Italian and German Phrase book. Before you go familiarize yourself with some key phrases and the rest you'll figure out when you are there. Carry a small note pad in...

    The Dolomites

Ha! I'm in semiconductors too (unfortunately it's rather limiting for location! Although Intel has some plants in sunny Costa Rica ;-) ). Sue, I enjoyed your trip report. Looks like you had a fantastic trip as well. We didn't get to do the full AV1 - maybe next time! Nice! I agree, the...

Tour du Mont Blanc Planning Q's

Sweet! We did the TMB for our honeymoon as well. But it was over eight years ago and I don't know if I remember enough to give any meaningful advice. :P We went very early in the season (and got lucky the weather was okay), so we didn't reserve ahead of time. Because of that we didn't have a...

    The Dolomites

Thanks everybody! Yep, that's the same snow storm! We spent an extra day at our first hut watching the snow pile up and hiked through it the following day (that was a PITA, but the scenery was beautiful). How long was your trip and where did you go? Sounds nice!

    The Dolomites

Thanks everybody! :) Trish, we'll see what she actually remembers. On the trip her favorite things were the barb wire and a fan in our bathroom one night that made a bumping noise. lol. I'm sure your girls would love it! It's fun doing the hut to hut thing.

    The Dolomites

The trip report in a nutshell: Two adults, one 3.75 year old, one backpack, two weeks in Italy. Seven rifugios, twelve nights in the mountains, and a whole lot of jaw dropping scenery. One amazing trip! The Dolomites 2011 The longer version (copied from our website): Steve, Norah, and I...

Looking for input on potential postcards

Not sure if you are looking for feedback on the photos or postcard designs, but I will throw in my two cents on the photos: 1. I like the person in the photo - it adds visual interest and provides for a sense of scale - although the person is a little dark. I would try to lighten him so he...

    The Wind River Range

Thank you everybody! It's such a beautiful place. Yea, just ask Steve about the 65 lb pack he got to carry, lol. In general it's a ton of fun having a kiddo in the outdoors - often makes you see things in a new light and the questions keep you thinking (and laughing).

    The Wind River Range

Thanks! We had acclimatized the previous week when we stayed in Cooke City and had done some hiking, so most of the time we didn't feel the altitude. Steve climbed Fremont Peak, which is nearly 14,000 feet. He felt it on that climb.

    The Wind River Range

This is the third post from our recent trip to Montana and Wyoming (the first two are The Beartooth Mountains and Yellowstone). The final part of our trip was a five day backpacking trip in The Wind River Range in western Wyoming. We read the trip reports and we saw the pictures, so we knew it...
