    MAGIC - The Return (2010)

Yay! Steve and I were just talking about this recently and I didn't know if it was going to happen since you've moved. We currently have no plans that weekend and are definitely interested (pending weather of course).

NYT piece on Yellowstone's Visitor Center

I agree the tone of the article is kind of odd. The author seems negative in the piece, but I'm not sure why? I couldn't tell if he wanted more safeguards in the park or less? Well, given that the park sees 3.3 millions visitors, these warnings are necessary. Each time I've been to...

    Best Hudson River Views?

I was going to say Breakneck as well. There are multiple views from this area that are nice. I also like the view from Sugarloaf.

Hudson River Valley Ramble Coming up in September

Thanks for the link. We've never participated before, but it looks fun (and I think it would be fun for Norah). I did notice the notes about having ankle high boots and many of the hikes it said not suitable for children. But I assume us carrying her is still okay. And we don't have ankle...

    Photography courses/books/resources

I had wanted to take a photography course, but had a hard time finding one that fit the bill. I know a lot of people who take classes at the local community college, but they weren't quite what I was looking for. The class that was more about fundamentals was a B&W film class with a lot of...

Bears used to guard Pot Plantation - May have to be put down

This is horrible for the bears. :( I saw another article on the story and had to triple check that the article wasn't from The Onion. Despite the sad situation for the bears, the addition of the raccoon and pot bellied pig made me chuckle...

Banff National Park - "Sawback Trail" - 8/8-8/14

Looks like it was an awesome trip! Terrific pictures. The scenery is gorgeous - also like the flower shots too. We definitely have to get back up there for the Sawback trail.

One dead two injured in bear attack in MT Campground

Oh my! I am leaving for Cooke City, MT this Saturday morning. I'll be within 1 mile of the Soda Butte campground! I better get some bear spray. I am sorry to hear about the loss of life.

Highpoint: Kansas. Mt. Sunflower (4039 ft). July 6, 2010

I'll keep an eye out for the Nebraska one. :D I'm also quite interested in your trip reports because my daughter is 2.5. At what age did your daughters really start hiking on their own (I know each child is different - just curious what your experience has been)?

Enjoying your trip reports. What an amazing experience for your girls! How many highpoints are you doing and how long is your trip? Sounds like so much fun. And highly anticipating your next trail report - I grew up in Gordon, NE. :)

I stand corrected -- not ALL the peaks. Just some. Slacker. :D

Thanks for sharing. I hadn't seen this before. So cute! :)

Acadia NP and Grafton Notch State Park

Seeing the thread about the Obamas visiting Bar Harbor prompted me to post this ... (btw, think it's cool we have a president that does some hiking!). Just wanted to share some pictures from our trip in June. We normally split our time between Acadia and Baxter (we usually go in September), but...

    "Bridge" camera purchase advice sought

You've already gotten a lot of good advice and just wanted to give my perspective of a digital vs DSLR. When we went digital we started with a PowerShot G3. Loved the camera (gave it up when it broke and wasn't worth to repair). We found the manual controls to be more than sufficient. We...

Are you referring to the trail conditions? lol, Steve posted under my name. He did a mega hike on Sunday. I was lounging around at home with Norah and my mom. :-D

Hiked above on 5/30/10, perfect trail conditions...best I have ever seen, completely dry. Bugs we non-existent, possibly due to high winds.

Reckless endangerment of impressionable children -- the sequel

Interesting link. I know my daughter would LOVE it. I think kids are naturally drawn to the outdoors, but many don't get the exposure.
