This sign was on the old summit this past Saturday! Someone had scrawled (old summit) below, you can see the blue backing. I bet this is the 7th sign at least that's been taken down.
The other sign was much smaller, I'm amazed they found it.
Here's the GPS track Bob Hayes did of the Black Pond bushwhack a couple of years ago (in red) and what it felt like yesterday in orange  Boy, it sure did meander, but it was packed nicely.
One of the great glissades indeed. We had a fantastic time yesterday. Thanks Earl for posting the trip, it was nice to finally meet you and Sue. We sure didn't stop very much, my hands were only really warm when I was moving.
A foot here in Sandown, NH. It's very unstable over the crust and the last storm's snow. On a local hike, I triggered many small avalanches on steep slopes.
I've glissaded parts of the Ammonusuc 3 times and to me it means sitting down and sliding. You most definitely don't do it with crampons although I've done it with snowshoes in heavy snow. I use poles to control speed and would never do the upper parts but the section from the little sign with...
When we went by the lot off Shannon Brook it was taken over by snowmobilers and the trail itself seemed to be well travelled by them. We parked up the road at the plant and encountered none.
Great map! I haven't explored enough of this beautiful area but plan to soon.
I agree with Woody, even in deep snow it's a very bumpy ride. I watched a couple people do it then decided to take off the snowshoes and kick step my way down them.
Bob & Gerri's trip report of Owlshead a couple of years ago shows a GPS track of the Brutus Bushwhack route http://rbhayes.net/latest/Owls-Head-02-11-06/index.htm I was on the hike and it was through some nice open woods, pretty steep but not like the slide.
This would be a nightmare for RT's 28 and 213 in Methuen as people avoid this. It's already bad enough. Lets widen the road to ease traffic then put up a toll to back it up again. Stupid.
Franz is great, get there early if it is a heavy snow year because spaces are pretty limited. He even offered to pick us up at the trailhead that evening if we paid extra:rolleyes: You go down the road a little from where you park and take a right at a stone post over a bridge and follow the...
The Fed website says that both the Mt Clinton Rd and the Jefferson Notch rd are open
I don't see any trip reports for Eisenhower being done that way. Can anyone confirm?
