    Old school VFTT

To try and brighten this website in this dark "zombie apocalypse" time, I am looking for some of the old school VFTT'rs to post some pics from happier times back in the day. A little history: Darren started this site in the late 90's, which became kind of the Facebook of the day for NE hikers...

    Hiker rescue near Owl's Head

A hiker had a medical emergency on Monday near Owl's Head in the Pemi. Unfortunately, he passed away. My condolences to his family and friends. https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2019/08/27/nh-hiker-suffers-medical-emergency-dies

Really Hot Humid Weekend Coming up

I am planning on insulating my attic tomorrow. In all seriousness, night hiking can be a lot of fun this time of year, especially during the Perseid Meteor Shower in Aug. If you time it right and catch the sunrise on the way down, it can be an amazing experience. One time we were on...

We are in the 11th hour and if you would like to have a voice on the Thoreau Falls Trail bridge removal please send your brief comments to Senator Kelly Ayotte https://www.ayotte.senate.gov/?p=contact I have been the MMNF volunteer maintainer of the Thoreau Falls Trail for the past 7 years...

    Hut Traverse

Excellent report! Well done! Age is just a number, but being active and experiencing life (not just existing) is the key, and you are a wonderful example! BTW, did you see any of our old cog grease footprints in the carpet at the restaurant in Gorham? :)

Winter Gathering NH Barnes Field February 21-23

I'm skiing Wildcat with my son tomorrow, and plan on stopping by in the evening for a few... And yes, The Shizz is definitely worth the price of admission... :)

    Livermore Road closure??

I've mountain biked and hiked that section several times in the past 3 months and up to Norway Rapids it was totally fine. The section between NR and the second junction of the Tripyramid Trail is quite eroded, which is what they must be working on. Not sure why they are closing the whole thing...

    Hancock-Captain-Carrigain Traverse 11.03.12

Nice trip report, and pictures! There are not many situations in life where you can actually say, "We read the Captain's log"...

"Is it worth it?" My take on early season ice climbing.

Awesome pictures! I am now going to refer you as "Saint Courtney". Regarding the topic, IMO, it is far better to experience (even if it is somewhat dangerous), than to just exist. We are all on this Earth for a short time, and we should experience as much as we can, while we can...

    Thoreau Falls Trail (9-4)

I went in from Lincoln Woods to do some trail maintenance from Irene. I hadn’t done any maintenance on this trail since May, but I was pleasantly surprised on how good of shape it was still in. I cleaned water bars, took care of most of the blowdowns (there are a few that are too big for my bow...

    WMNF Closure!

I think that they are just overreacting to all of the media hype. I don't remember them closing it during the ice storm of 98 and that was a much more serious situation...

    7 summits with Frodo 4/30/2011

Nice TR and pics Mats, though the pics are a nice contrast to the horrible rotten snow conditions we encounered for most of the day. We need a heat wave... Laura, we must have just missed you! I know you love those early starts... Dr D, actually I bought that hat after the Rangers ousted NY...

The Hancocks in Less Than 19 Hours

I agree, inquiring minds would like more specifics... :) Try and think of the positives; you made it back safe, you learned a few things, and you have another incredible memory to reflect back on when your 80 years old...

    Tuckerman's Ravine 1952-54

Incredible pictures! Nice find John. I have not been fortunate enough to have ever met Nick, but I was fortunate enough to meet Alexander d’Arbeloff, the other co-founder of Teradyne. Those two were brilliant engineers... The pictures are amazing!
