    Rhode Island high point Intel

I led a winter expedition to this HP a few years ago. It was quite intense, but we did summit and return to talk about it... http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20067

Way to go Sue! You were moving! I loved your itinerary...:) BTW, nice to see the "umbrella" as gear used in both your summer and winter records. Umbrella's are so under-rated...

Highpoint : Montana. Granite Peak (12799’) Southwest Couloir- July 24th 2010

Awesome job you two! That's a tough day, but you stuck with it and persevered! Sweet pics too... Timmus, that was a lot harder than our winter Katahdin trip a few years ago. The sky is the limit... Also, nice TR and pics from your Utah climbs. I did some climbing in the Twin Peaks area from...

    Owl's Head

Personally, I stick to the trails in Summer and Fall and just do the BP whack in Winter and Spring (unless the water levels are high, which they rarely are in this time of year). I find taking the FB/LB trails both faster and more enjoyable this time of year compared to the slower BP whack...

Granite State of Mind - Jay Z Parody

"It's like old Hampshire, but it's new...." Too funny! That was a well produced video. Loved the "plow guy" on the mini piano... Also, I would have never imagined putting Frost to rap, but they made it work... Also loved the Al Kaprielain reference! As for the for the cow tipping reference...

Go to Katahdin - ca. 1923

Awesome read Spencer! I loved the 1804 quote: "The Indians have a superstition respecting this mountain, that the evil spirit, whom they call Pamola, inhabits it, at least in the winter, and flies off in the spring with tremendous rumbling noises" I wonder if that statement has anything to do...

Getting Lucky in Baxter- Winter 115

Way to go LL! I still fondly remember our St. Patricks Day hike to the Bonds about 5 years ago. I will never forget going in up to my neck in a spruce trap and looking over to my right and seeing you up to your neck in a spruce trap, then to my left looking to see Stinkyfeet up to her neck in a...

Two hikers safe after unexpected overnight hiking Owls head

Sounds like they just ran out of steam... I noticed that the AP writer mentioned that they were on the "Lincoln Park" Trail. Maybe listening to their Ipod while writing??

I was planning on joining you guys, but I only had 2 days available to head North (one was on your first day and I attempted to break out that section between Lafayette and Garfield but ran into some visibility problems, and the other was last Sunday when you were already finished so I went ice...

Hiker OK After Getting Stuck On Mount Moosilauke

Glad you are safe! I also don’t believe you are 64… :) You are one of the strongest, most experienced hikers that I have ever had the pleasure to hike with (sorry Ed H, Rick has you beat!). No doubt that you would make the right decisions to get out of your predicament. You finished the W48 in...

    Mcrillis Tr in winter (Whiteface)?

I tried it in March 08, and was not able to follow it up. Got lost about 1-1/2 miles from the trailhead and could not find the trail after lots of backing up. Even bushwhacked for a while, but still gave up... Tough trail to follow in winter down low...

    Appalachia

Just recieved my winter/spring 2010 edition, and I have 2 things to comment on. One: Guy Waterman's "Reaching for the Winter Light" (excerps from his journal's from his solo winter trips in the Whites) are awesome! Second: Mohamed, you did an excellent job covering the accident reports over...
