    Bonds Photo Op

Timer may be difficult unless you have one that'll do 30 seconds or more. 10 seconds won't cut it for that shot. If you are visiting Bondcliff from Mt. Bond (as opposed to coming up from Lincoln Woods), make sure you walk the extra 100-ish feet to see that view (basically, walk until you see...

Italy's Dolomites, Alta Via 2 Route

I know most people wouldn't be comfortable doing this, but a lot of huts will let you email your credit card information and that will confirm your reservation. I did this for the tour du mont blanc for most huts back in 2006. I am glad that I did because a few of the huts were completely full...

    New England Gems

Very interesting....is somebody going around "improving" views? I was on Tecumseh two weeks ago and somebody cut down 2-3 trees on that summit (it now has a great view). I wonder how the FS would feel about this...

Wow - thanks a ton for this info. I'm out there in June and was going to go on that exact route. Guess that'll change a bit.

    4000-footers log

Just created this log for myself in EXCEL to help track who I've hiked each of the 4000-footers with. Just figured I'd share in case anybody wanted such a template and didn't have one already: 4000-FOOTERS LOG

Extreme Sledding in or near the Whites

Just realized that the Doublehead Ski Trail would probably be great as well.

Extreme Sledding in or near the Whites

And extreme ironing is definitely on my to-do list for 2013. I'm thinking Knife's Edge :D

Extreme Sledding in or near the Whites

Are zipfy's safe on narrow trails though? Seems like they are made for wide open hills and roads.

Extreme Sledding in or near the Whites

Hello All! So I picked up a couple of "Zipfys" (http://www.amazon.com/Zipfy-Freestyle-Mini-Luge-Snow/dp/B001UJGU22) a month ago and then are unbelievably fun in the correct conditions (packed but not icy conditions). Anybody have any ideas where "moderate" or "extreme" sledding with these...

    Anyone heading to New Mexico?

I actually don't like this idea at all - it'll encourage people to rip apart the land looking for it.

Transitioning Back to Work after a Thru-Hike

Thanks for some truly great replies. I am a bit afraid of how my thinking might change as a result of a huge trip like this, but perhaps that really is the point of a big trip like that--to challenge your thinking. Thanks for sharing, everyone.

Trail Adopters Needed - Pemi District

Just wanted to say that I also love my adopted trail, and I find it more rewarding than actually just hiking it. I cannot recommend adopting a trail enough. I think you will find it fun, rewarding, and great exercise.

Transitioning Back to Work after a Thru-Hike

Hello All, The significant other and I are always tossing around the idea of quitting our jobs and doing a thru-hike (most likely the Appalachian Trail) or a year long road trip. I'll be honest though - I'm worried that once we do something like this, we are likely to have a real tough...

Views from Wherever - What are your favorite viewpoints for various summits?

So I'm not the only one that was pleasantly suprised by this view! Good to know...the first time I saw this I couldn't believe how massive Passaconaway seemed from there.

    Chased by a skunk!

That's hilarious! I once kicked a skunk by accident and it actually flew a good 3-4 feet in the air. I was working at a gym and was bringing the trash out at the end of the night. Something was in my footpath so I just decided to "boot it" out of my way. It was a skunk and he was pissed (but he...
