    Hiking with a baby

Snowshoe, the first thing you need is for the baby to be able to hold it's head up on it's own, without this you risk injury. The next thing is to get a proper pack where the baby is below your height, remember you my clear the branch but the child gets hit in the face. I can tell you I was...

    Catskills in spring

Mohamed, My guess is your doing the NE4000's. There is a group doing a hike of the Devils Path that includes Hunter (This is a LONG hike). We are doing it as a fund raiser for The Brain Tumor Society and The NY/NJ Trail Confrence. It would offer you a chance to meet us Southern VFTT members...

    Tent Question

I also have the Vortex 2 and would buy it again. With 2 doors and 2 vestibules for gear and a set up in less than 3 minutes it can't be beat. I paid $120.00 in Campmor. I have been in major down pour's and have never had one drop of water in the tent.

    Zion NP

Lot's of good advise. I think it will be to cold for the Narrows and one piece of info that has not been given is if it rains while your hiking in the Narrows, you better make sure you get to higher ground and in a hurry. Many hikers have been injured or killed in flash flooding. I agree with...

Slide Mnt. via the slide (Catskills)

Mink, I have not been on the Rip trail in 20 years, but the slide can be seen from Rt 23 C. You can get a real good view of it after you pass the falls that go under Rt 23C when your heading east. There is a small parking area that a lot of ice climbers use and right past that is the view...

Slide Mnt. via the slide (Catskills)

Mink, you asked about other slides in the Catskills, If your going east on rt 23c just past Twilight Park there is a slide (very large, southeast direction) above The Catskills Creek and past Wildcat and Hillyer Ravine's I always thought it would be a great place to ski

Recommend me a good Gore-Tex lined midweight boot

Jay, the Asolo 95 is an excellent boot with no break in time needed. The only problem is that the sole burns out rather fast. The list is $150.00 but see what Campmor has them for.

rec's on a Catskill overnighter this weekend?

Western, Both Warren and Jay gave you good advice. I would be very careful, after this cold snap I'm sure there is a lot of ice and you may want to purchase crampons. The only reports I've seen call for 30% chance of light snow, with no snow pak to talk of and ice with 1/2 over it sounds a...

    Gps

It's fun to compare notes with other hikers who have them but I keep walking off the cliff's!!! I have to stop that. It's a nice tool but I like the compass and map.

    Snowiest area in the Catskills

I agree with Mark on this and also voted on the Devils Path North to Huntersfield Mt because of the lake effect snows to the NW section of the Cat's. 15 to 20 years ago it was even more evident.
