    Summit of Ellen?

Thats a fine hike, definitely doable as a nice day hike. You pass over what seems like a never ending series of peaks after Abraham before you get to Ellen. However, Mt, Ellen is well marked. Try and save it for a clear day. The views above treeline from Abraham are excellent! Enjoy the...

    Pemi Loop, sort of

Now thats an epic trip treport, you absolutely made the right call bailing out when you did. That was a TR definitely worth reading. Brings to mind the saying "the summit is optional, getting down is mandatory" :) Glad it all turned out fine.

A soggy sandwich on Sandwich Dome......

Now this is a dubious honor at best!! To all = Good chance I'll be out somewhere hiking on Saturday, so pack extra Gortex!!

A soggy sandwich on Sandwich Dome......

The Sandwich Mtn. trail was not too bad to descend on, though you had to really watch your footing in a few areas. The slabs were wet, but you could descend, with care. It was not a trail to make any quick moves when its sloppy like it was yesterday!

A soggy sandwich on Sandwich Dome......

The day started out fine as I headed north, very warm and pleasant in So. NH. But the weather reports up north indicated it was not a nice day.......despite that I decided to go and bag a NEHH peak, specifically Sandwich Dome. As I headed up the Drakes Brook Trail off of Highway 49 in...

    Honeymooners

Welch-Dickey in Waterville Valley and Mt. Pemigewasset (aka Indianhead) in Franconia Notch get my vote. Both are easy to find, have great views, in or near resort towns and will not take all day to hike, and of course, you'll still have plenty of energy for other activities! :p

    Death March 2007 – Madison Gulf – 07/01/07

Definitely an epic hike with lots of poor weather. :) Would have loved to have made this hike, but actually glad I missed it after reading that TR!!! Congrats on #28 Bobby :D

What's the most reliable piece of gear you've ever owned?

My Asolo 525 boots are the most reliable. :) I have used them from Mt. Washington to the streets of Boston in a 36" snow storm. They still hold up and are the best.

    Rangeley Maine Peaks

I'd save the Bigelow range for the best day. And add in North and South Horn, don't pass it up, only adds a few hours, depending on pace, great views from there and the Horns Pond Trail is beautiful. Plus S. Horn (?), its on the NEHH list. That hike is one of the best in the Northeast. :)...

    Our first time with Twins

Bobby, Eric and I had a great time out there on Saturday. The winds were really blowing on the Twins, especially so on South Twin with its wide open summit! :) it was quite a hoot standing on top of those Twin peaks in that wild weather. :p I had done the Twins before, only I solo'd each...

Mohonk Preserve, NY- a trip to the "GUNKS"

After much commiserating for days via phone and e-mail, Alpinista and I agreed on a trip to the Mohonk Preserve in NY, "aka" the Gunks. Now I know next to nothing about NY hiking spots, so I agreed on Alpinista using her planning genius for this one. Turns out she had climbed...

    Planned Hike Input Requested

I have done all 3 of these hikes solo and #1, N/S Kinsmans, the Cannonballs and Cannon was by far the hardest. The stretch of the Kinsman trail between Cannon and the Kinsman Trail Junction up from the LL hut (trail name escapes me) is by far one of the nastiest trails I have been on. On the...

    Catskills peaks......

I am looking for "starter" peaks on the Catskill 3500 list to hike this Summer. All my hiking has been in New England: the Whites, Maine, and Vermont, a few MA peaks- until know. Most of the hikes would originate out of the NYC area. I'd definitely like to get out and explore some new places...

    Goodbye to an old friend...

I agree with Dugans statement, says it all. Sorry about the loss, we've lost 2 dogs and 3 cats the over last 4 years, so I know the feeling.

The Kinsmans - Half plus one; a little blood, lots of sweat but no tears.

Bobby, Nice Pics. That is a nice trail to take up to the Kinsmans, I was last up that way in the late fall of 2003 and we had some pretty serious ice! The view from Bald Peak is really nice. Glad to see you survived the minor catastrophies of the day and are now past the NH 48...

    Cannon- well almost anyway!

First place I stopped was the Flume visitor center where I had a hot bowl of clam chowder. Man was that good! :) It was fun to get out anyway!! :)
