    Beaver, or Muskrat?

Muskrats! Yea, definitely muskrats. Although it is now politically incorrect, when I was a kid we use to trap them for the fur. I have seen and handled hundreds:p. They are very active, day and night, after the ice goes out. Cheers, Stu

    BondCliff - 2/14

BondCliff trail is in great shape to the summit of BondCliff. Snowshoes are needed especially if you step off the trail. The ridge was mixed rock and ice with very little snow, traction aids needed. I had to turn around at BondCliff due to the "breezy" conditions. After getting blown off my feet...

Coolest 4K Peak Name in Northeast

Isolation! Love the sound of it. I also agree that "Wolf Jaws" and "The Fool Killer" are tremendous names.

    Bonds from Base camp - 2/14 ?

Sorry about the short notice! I've been watching the weather and trying to get my s••t together for this one. The weather looks really good (especially compared to -20 on O.H. a few weekends ago:eek:) and everything seems to be falling into place. The plan is to hike in friday afternoon from...

    Bobcat?

Lots of bobcats down here in the "flat-lands" of CT/MA as well. On a hike over Mt. Race this past weekend there were bobcat tracks all over the place, as well as rabbit/hare tracks, their favorite snack. They are definitly on the increase. I've seen many (at least 12) in the past few years...

    Live Freeze and Die

I can relate 100%. We lost our power for 5 days in the '98 ice storm under very similar conditions. It was almost like living in a war zone. I never want to hear the sound of cracking/breaking trees and branches again. Losing power for a day or two is an inconvenience... Losing it for 4 days or...

Tom, Field, Willey, & Avalon from Crawford Notch, Sunday 12/14

Earl! You've been on quite a tear this year. Very humbling, but inspirational as well. What are your winter goals this year? Hopefully I'll be able to join in on one of your hikes. Carry-on.....Stu:cool:

    Jerusalem Trail to Mt. Ellen

11/22 14" powder at the TrailHead, 2' - waist high drifts along ridge Full winter conditions, deep unbroken powder, temps in low teens, snowing and windy. We used gortex shells, gaitors, and (stabilicers on the ice-bulges right before you hit the ridge.) We did'nt bring snowshoes and I don't...

Hey Bob! Good to hear from you. Please see my latest post (made before I read your message), so you can see we are on the same line of thought. I would LOVE to camp at Roaring Brook or anywhere else with you guys. It would make the trip that much more fun....so, pencil me in as a definite and...

    Katahdin 2009

Are there any...... "group" sites inside of the park where some of us could camp at one site (similar to Barnes Field in the Whites?) This would make it a true "mini" gathering :D, rather than just a group of people meeting to do a day hike. Does anyone know if this is allowed or even...

    Bobcat?

Maybe not! Not to step on anyones toes, but....in my opinion the images are not clear enough to make a definite call. Reading animal sign is often very difficult and one is often fooled. Look at a house-cats track in the snow. A bobcat track will look the same accept larger, (sometimes a little...

    How old are you ?

57 40's and 50's now running neck in neck! I'm 57 going on 20. Feel better than ever and hopefully this trend will continue for a long time. At least that's the plan. ;)

Exciting weekend trip up Mt. Adams!

Cool! I did a similar trip a few years back. Greyknob is the best. Did the caretaker light the stove? I think it got up to the low 20's inside. I sat a few inches from it and almost doused off. :D cheers, Stu
