    Denali questions

    1) Handwarmers. Your call. I brought 8 and didn't use a single one. 2) Cell phone. Useless if you ask me. One guy on our team brought his and it worked only at medical camp (14,200'). We also had a sat phone and only worked once. 3) Ipods. Bring the Ipod. I would recommand light weight...

    Rocky Branch trail question

Thank you all for the input. Our objective is not necessarly to do Isolation but to enjoy a 3 day loop on trails we hadn't tried before. I don't mind the rotten snow as much as difficult water crossings with a full pack. I'll have to study the maps again tonight. I have hiked by that Giant...

    Rocky Branch trail question

We're thinking of doing a backpack this weekend up on Montalban Ridge. Planning on a late start on day 1 from route 16, camping at shelter #2 then camp at Resolution shelter on day 2. We'd complete the loop via Stairs Col trail and Rocky Branch trail. I've never been on the Rocky Branch trail...

Mountain climbing bad for the brain

Nathalie and I took part in a similar study in Anchorage last summer by the IFAM (Institute For Altitude Medicine) from Telluride. It's the 3rd one on the list below. http://altitudemedicine.org/research.php The results should be out later this year. They gave us a copy of the MRI they took...

    Montreal Beer Night.

Thanks Sylvie and Neil! It was another fun gathering. Had a great time in the laundry room. Hoping to see the rest of the house next time. :p And.... my "mexican mess" won the dip contest despite some fierce competition from Timmus. :D Looking forward to the next one.

Is hunting season over in the Adirondacks?

Yup, it's definitely hunting season. Nat and I were backpacking also in the JBL area this weekend and we ran into a group of 6 hunters on Saturday who were dragging a dead deer back to the Garden.

Is hunting season over in the Adirondacks?

As per my NE post, I'm planning some solo bushwacking from Nov 12 to 14. I wouldn't want to be mistaken for a deer or a moose.:D

Is hunting season finished in Northern NH?

Hmmm! Looks like I will have to change my plans. I'll check the Adirondacks but I suspect it might be a similar situation. Thanks for the info!

Montreal Beer Night Sept 18 or 19?

Cool! Thursday the 18th it is. Let's say anytime after 6PM. I'll send my address and directions later via PM for those interested. Giggy, I could pick you up at your hotel when I leave work if you like.

Montreal Beer Night Sept 18 or 19?

Well, if it's on the 18th, Nat and I could have it at our place (near Christophe-Colomb & Mont-Royal). It's not huge but pretty central near Mont-Royal metro station. There is also a bar (Chez Baptiste) just around the corner if we have a big group. :D

I'm usually terrible at writing trip reports so I figure I would at least post some pictures to give you an idea what our expedition was like. :D http://share.shutterfly.com/action/pictures?a=67b0de21b34577dc45c0&sid=0AauHDRs2cuWLmw
