Here's a list I don't think exists: Mountains whose summit is a giant boulder

I've never been there, nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, however, I have a sneaking suspicion that Bailey Hill (NY) has a summit boulder.

Are gas prices affecting your hiking?

Climate change may be exacerbated by overpopulation, but overpopulation is not the cause of anthropogenic climate change. If you removed the populations of Africa, South America, and India, you would only be reducing current CO2 emissions by ~14%. Source.

The 52 with a view list

Exploring different parts of New England/the Northeast is one of the hidden joys of peakbagging, especially with the sub-4k' and more obscure lists. OTH, the noteriety and popularity of a list can kill the joys of solitude and easy parking. As one one person wrote in a summit register, "Don't...

    Drinking Beer on "The Summit"

Hahahaha! Brilliant! Beer does not dehydrate you, neither does coffee. @skiguy, if people are having more than one beer on the summit I would agree with you. As others have mentioned, beer is problematic in terms of weight and temperature. As you say, it is much more satisfying aprés hike...

    Utility Backpack for Construction Materials.,,

Child carrier packs such as the Deuter Kid Comfort can be repurposed as pack boards. The Deuter has a nice ledge at the bottom, and IIRC, I only had to remove two screws to remove the child seat and storage section. Short of cutting it off, the face padding isn't able to be removed, but the...

In photos or real life? The moon illusion is in your head, and we don't know its cause. If you see the moon illusion in a photograph, it's the result of a photographer using a long lens. https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/news/1191/the-moon-illusion-why-does-the-moon-look-so-big-sometimes/

Hiker asked for a rescue...via Facebook

Why? The sounds of the woods and hills are just as much of the experience as the sights. Some of the coolest mountain experiences of the past year were aural: a raven babbling as it seemingly followed me down a ridge, trees cracking like a rifleshot in the cold, moose clashing in the rut just...

Another way to determine turn around time (in the winter)

Correct! But with today's lighting technology, absent such elective deadlines or objective hazards such as rockfall, turnaround times are an artificial and uneccesary constraint. I avoid commitments on hiking days, as I find a deadline can hamper the enjoyment of a hike and the constricts the...

2 parts of Triple Crown list a hiker would not want to be on

Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) are carried on boats/maritime vessels. A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is carried by and individual, such as Carl Skalak. Not only did Skalak use his PLB twice, but they were the first two uses of PLBs by the general public, they were within...

Another way to determine turn around time (in the winter)

Blue Mountain in the Adirondacks at about 11 p.m. No crowds. A favorite memory of mine is from a solo night ski in the Camel's Hump backcountry in the midst of a snowstorm. I arrived at the base of a massive cliff, stripped my skins, donned my down jacket, turned off my light, and enjoyed a...

Another way to determine turn around time (in the winter)

If objective hazard such as wet-slide avalanches and rockfall are not present, and you don't have a dinner date, what is the point of a turnaround time or needing to be back at the trailhead before dark? Did not the advent of LED headlamps make the notion obsolete?
