N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

Huh? What does producing power 24/7 have to do with anything? You know there is something called a battery, which can store energy, and we're still in the infancy of battery technology.

    Entire Gunstock Mountain Staff resigns

Huh? Did you read the NHPR article in the OP? It's full of quotes from both sides. My guess is that you're unclear as to Silber, Syliva, Hough, Ness, Strang, and Lambert's reasoning, because their behaviour is only logical when perceived through their extremist ideology.

    Entire Gunstock Mountain Staff resigns

It is both sad and infuriating that those ideologues have ruined a good thing and acted against the best interests of the public. From all accounts there was a great management team in place who were maximizing Belknap County's profits. Maximizing the county's profits would not be in the best...

    East Inlet Road

East Inlet Road has recently been graded all the way out to Boundary Pond Road, which has also been graded. The entire road is currently navigable by any car. I was driving a Honda Accord, but my old low-clearance Civic would have been fine.

Finished the Vermont 500 Highest List

Well done, Spencer! It's great to see that another Brattleboro boy enjoys bushwhacking obscure peaks, although you're several levels beyond my peakbagging accomplishments.

Hiker Rescue - I think they didnt have a map

I like this idea, although I would suggest it be on a separate post right along the trail at the beginning, so that it stands out. I've seen museums do this in lieu of a printed map.

    Lost Town of Livermore

Here is Bill Gove's map (p. 18) from his book J.E. Henry's Logging Railroads (1998). On p. 21 Gove writes: The eventual length of the road when it was extended through [Zealand] Notch, into the town of Livermore, and on to Ethan Pond (formerly Willey Pond) was about 11 miles, with another...

Lidar Article with comments about the AMC 4K list

I'm in agreement with your disappointment nartreb. In an old interview with Gene Daniel, maybe in the late naughts or early '10s, I recall that he took a subtle dig at the Adirondack 46ers for sticking with a historical list and likewise took pride in the AMC 4k'er Committee adapting its lists...

Sleeping in cars allowed at Lafayette Place?

That and the tracking capabilities of the vaccine microchips has been largely a failure, as their range is limited, so they don't work well outside of urban areas. The technology has gottena big boost this past year, and the range of the chips should be significantly greater by the time Pfizer...

Sleeping in cars allowed at Lafayette Place?

These examples are unfortunate, and are could lead to a crackdown, if there are the resources to do so. In addition to this, I would suggest that difficulty in getting a parking spot on a weekend is also exacerbating the issue. It all comes down to overuse and how that is addressed and...

    Zealand Parking

I headed up the East side from where the Shoal Pond Trail crosses Shoal Pond Brook just below 2,600'. It was thick spruce from the get-go and then opened up a bit with some thick spots re-emerging now and again. I ended up on the ridge between the 3,015' northern knob and the summit. Some places...

Here's a list I don't think exists: Mountains whose summit is a giant boulder

It's not a giant boulder, but the summit of Shoal Pond Peak is on a boulder.

    Zealand Parking

I arrived super-early and took a nap in my car before hitting the trail at about 8 a.m., at which time people were already parking on the road. Thank you, everyone who responded, for the info.

    Zealand Parking

It's been a while since I've used the Zealand trailhead. Do I assume correctly that it typically fills up on weekends? If so, by what time?

Hiker Rescue yesterday on Washington (Mt Clay)

My friends an I have routinely backcountry skied in temperatures below zero. The coldest recorded temperatures for our backcountry night-skiing group was -28º F at the base of a line—there happened to be a remote UVM weather station right near the end of the run. The advantage of being on skis...

Dog: 1; Spencer: 0 (WARNING! GRAPHIC!)

I hope so, too! In a different location the consequences of a bite like that could be much more severe, perhaps even life-threatening. It would be even more horrible if a child were or is attacked. I'm glad to hear, Spencer, that it seems to be just a flesh wound. I hope that your recovery is...

    Boots fitting remediation question

Which is your longer foot? If you went down a half-size from your typical shoe size, then it is unlikely that a boot would be too large. Do you have unusually low-volume feet? Or unusually narrow heels? What are you wearing for socks? Also, what is the break-in protocol and have you been...

    Boots fitting remediation question

I'm going to guess that the boot is too small, the fix for which is to get the next size up. I made the same mistake with a pair of Limmer Standards. At first I hoped it was a matter of breaking them in, but the problem is that when the boot is too small, it can't flex properly. Even after...

IIRC, Wallface has a summit boulder, too, yes?
