    Hiking Boundry

I never saw border patrol on the hike, so can't say much about that. The defined ATV path that leads out of the trail in the woods leads me to believe some travel on the border is accepted or allowed, but that might not be in any official capacity. My things to note would be about registering...

Jay Peak & Big Jay via Long Trail, bushwhack, Jay Camp Loop

Date of Hike: 8-16-15 Trail Conditions: Mostly dry on the Long Trail. Some spots were just a little wet. The bushwhack is a well defined herd path but has plenty of mud. Paths around most of the deeper holes are forming. Some of the mud holes have debris that will hold you up, some don't...

    Pack weight

Just make sure to go to the bathroom before you head out. That's free and easy weight to shed. That was a suggestion I saw in a bicycling magazine when talking about cyclists trying to shed a few grams of weight at high costs($$).

    Abraham, Spaulding and Sugarloaf

I haven't done these as a traverse, but I do think that would be the preferable way to do them. If you aren't coming down the ski slopes off of Sugarloaf, there is a steep section of trail as you get closer to the bottom. I didn't find it hard after doing an out and back of Spaulding and...

    Elephant Mtn 6/16/15

I was relying on herd paths that (at least to start) matched TRs I had read from others. I also printed out Tim's image of his track overlaid on a GoogleMaps satellite image of the mountain. That image not being on a topo map instead, I should have studied the layout of the mountain a bit more...

    Elephant Mtn 6/16/15

Sending me the whole track is fine, I've edited enough of my own that I can easily separate the two hikes. When I was climbing, I had been following the herd path (left option from the last log landing/road) and was occasionally seeing small cairns. I got to one spot where the path looked like...

    Elephant Mtn 6/16/15

That would figure. I had questions about the peak anyways and will admit I didn't have time to do as much research as planned on the peak. Not having a good map of the area, I used Google Maps at times for info/ideas. If you look at the terrain view for GMaps online, it shows the eastern most...

    Lauky's last hike

So sorry to hear about this. I only met you a couple times on the trail, but enjoyed seeing your posts of the hikes you two did. You gave him a great life while he was here and you should be proud of that.

LOST HIKER IN Spaulding mountain area maine.

Last year when I hiked in that area bagging the 4Ks, there were signs with some info about her and the most current pic of her. They said if you found anything that you thought was a sign of her, take a pic and make note of the location, but do not move it. That way they could investigate it...

    Boundary Peak 6/13/15

I guess we need to hope for someone to write a very detailed trip report of Mt. Gosford in here so we can all be prepared ahead of time.

    Elephant Mtn 6/16/15

Parking: 44°45.505'N, 70°46.587'W Miles: 3.33 Total Elevation: 1,195 feet Total Time: 2:55 Elephant Mtn Rd doesn't have a sign at the end of it, but it is the first dirt road after Clearwater Brook when driving west on South Arm Rd. The brooks along the road are signed, so that helps. The...

    Boundary Peak 6/13/15

Entering Canada: Where are you going? Gosford Park hiking. Where do you live? NH. Why are you crossing here? I'm camping down in Stratton for the weekend. Re-entering the US there were far more questions. It took about 4-5 minutes per car going this direction compared to 1 min the other. I...

Parking: 45°6.584'N, 70°35.929'W Miles: 3.38 Total Elevation: 1,297 feet Total Time: 2:21 The start of the road off of Route 16 is not marked with a sign, so be on the lookout. There is currently some ribbon hanging in the trees, but I am sure this is for the active logging in the area. The...

Parking: 45°17.006'N, 70°40.262'W Miles: 7.82 Total Elevation: 2,201 feet Total Time: 4:08 I drove out to the parking area yesterday, but realized on the way that I didn't bring enough food/water (and didn't have a filter). So I used it to make sure I knew where I was going instead. The road...

Best peak to end 4000 footer list in NH?

I ended up finishing on Bondcliff by shear chance. I did about 3/4 of the peaks in the last year of completing the list my first time through. So I hiked what I wanted and wasn't worried about where to finish. I picked peaks with views for nice days and peaks with limited or no views for...
