    Wildcats and rain - 6/27/13

That is one of the first open spots before any of the wooden steps. There is a section of the rock carved out to make room to walk, then it goes up over some steep stuff just before a narrow pass up some more rocks without many good grips when wet. In my gallery link, I do have a picture of...

Seeking ride 6/27 - Stony Br TH to Pinkham

I was thinking that wouldn't be a bad idea. Letting them know right off how far I need to go.

Seeking ride 6/27 - Stony Br TH to Pinkham

I know that hitching is a good possibility here, but if I arrange something ahead of time, I know for sure I have a ride. Hitching is a possible backup plan for me, expecting that at that time of day it might not be too hard.

Seeking ride 6/27 - Stony Br TH to Pinkham

Thursday of this week (6/27/13) I am going to start a traverse up over the Wildcats, Carters, and to Moriah. I am hoping to leave my car at Stony Brook TH so that I can end up at my car at the end. I was wondering if anyone here might be heading down Rt 16 in the morning that I could arrange a...

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

With the opening of more trails, hopefully the noise will be less concentrated here for you. Of course that means it will be happening in other places as well though.

Mt Willey, Mt Field, Mt Tom 6-9-2013

When I did this loop, I walked the tracks back. I didn't see a no trespassing sign at the time, but I probably would have walked them anyways. In particular, I wanted to see the Willey Brook Bridge up close. I have a friend that use to work for a railroad company, so I knew ahead of time that...

Mt Willey, Mt Field, Mt Tom 6-9-2013

The Conway Scenic RR has the schedule for the "notch train" posted on their site. I have found info about the timing of the train there before. It doesn't always break it down to exactly what time it will be at all locations, but you can get a pretty close idea. Looking at the site right now...

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

I have never been myself, but know of multiple clubs and groups that have gone. They also host yearly events there too in the summer. I imagine it gets much less use in winter due to the shear number of miles of trails for snowmobiles. There are so many other places to ride, they don't need...

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

I don't spend much time in Gorham since I normally come up from the south and don't have a lot of need to go through town. I can fully see how the streets you are describing could get choked down with more traffic or slower moving ATVs. Most of the places I have been able to ride on the roads...

Mt Willey, Mt Field, Mt Tom 6-9-2013

I thought the same thing about the ladders when I did this hike. You gain a lot of elevation right on those without actually going very far. The hike from there up to Willey never seems to give you a break, but to me that made the view from there that much more of a reward.

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

In that case, it could also be a confusion of what the speed limit for ATVs is. Most trails in NH have a speed limit of 25 mph and all the roads I have been on where ATVs are allowed are typically posted at 10 mph for ATVs (and typically you ride on the side to be more out of the way). Also...

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

As someone who snowmobiles up north a lot in the winter, I can relate to this fully. There is almost no time of day (even at night) that you can't hear a snowmobile. But one good thing the ATV trails have is that most trail systems won't allow riding after sunset and before sunrise. Granted...

Major Northern NH ATV trail system grand opening

As someone who visits the top of the state regularly to snowmobile and ATV ride as well as hike, I can't wait to check out the new trails and look forward to being able to link more places together. I admit that there will always be a few bad apples, I have seen ATV riding up north as being...
