Here you go: This is the Google security alert that says Chrome is "not secure."

Yes, I'm running Avast Antivirus, and Malwarebytes anti malware software, both fully updated. I don't have any trouble with any other websites. I think this is a cookie that Xenforo is depositing. Not the end of the world, but the software should ask users whether they want to accept cookies.

Thanks again Tim, for your hard work. Alan "Techadmin", there is a problem you need to fix. (Other users should be aware of this.) The forum software deposits a bot or some kind of malware every time a user logs in. I have tested this and confirmed it several times now: If I "view" the...

OK, thanks. I hope our experience with Xenforo is good.

Thanks, Tim for all your work! I'm glad VFTT lives! But I am a little concerned about Xenforo. The only forum site I used to visit that used Xenforo was the now defunct NEIce forum page. It was constantly invaded by bots, frequently down for repair, and it became too much work to keep up with...

    Pickett Mountain Mine in Maine

Same thing in NY. It's now a standard tactic for any group opposed to any project. In the business world, there's a window during which a project will work financially. Tie the project up in court, even with entirely frivolous BS, and you can delay it until the window closes. Later, when the...

    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

Not as much as Franconia. But Algonquin is a common site. Also Marcy, where folks mistakenly go downhill into Panther Gorge because it's down wind. But the concept is the same everywhere. We only have 8 - 10 trailheads to cover to capture 90% of the hikers. It's just that no one cares, so...

    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

Just a few summer weekends, at a couple of the most popular trailheads. TFR can probably chime in with more detail. The reason the deployment is so tiny is because it's completely unfunded. The so called "land management" agency here (DEC) doesn't do anything to support this, or any other...

    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

Distilled from my post on the recent similar thread: "What can we do different to try and prevent the next young or older individual from this happening again?" Full time, paid trailhead stewards at the major trailheads for human interaction. Over and over it has been shown that people...

    Climber falls to death

There are a lot of climbs (and canyons) where you have to rap to get where you want to go. But boy, you have to be careful. My wife and I have been climbing for almost 40 years, and we have become much more careful in the last few years. Surprising amount of detail in the article for a...

Peakbagger, you should put in for the job. Now that you've retired from your regular career, this would be a perfect retirement gig for a few years!

General Mountaineering Ice Axe vs An Actual Ice Axe

I only had to cut steps once. Learned it from reading "Climbing Ice" and from a 6 day AAI course on Mt. Baker. A group of friends joined me on a winter night hike of Noonmark Mountain in the Adirondacks. A section of the trail is notoriously icy, and my friends did not have front point...

General Mountaineering Ice Axe vs An Actual Ice Axe

Looking at the photos as a climber, not a hiker, I would characterize photo 2 as "not that steep." With sharp crampons and good balance, that's "walkable" terrain. You will want to practice crampon footwork. I recognize that crampons and balance vary a lot. I have plenty of "wobbly" moments...

General Mountaineering Ice Axe vs An Actual Ice Axe

"Ice axes" come in a broad range. For most NE hiking uses, the "mountaineering axe" is, in fact the right tool. It will only be used in a few spots along the route; the rest of the time it will be on the pack. On long, open snow climbs, like in the Cascades, the axe will be used a lot more...

NH Fish And Game Seeking Help With Missing Hiker

Tragic outcome. "What can we do different to try and prevent the next young or older individual from this happening again?" It's already been touched upon in this thread. Full time, paid trailhead stewards at the major trailheads for human interaction. Over and over it has been shown that...

    Latest Preferred Snowshoes?

We're mostly ancient here, so I am looking for the wisdom of the ancients. I'm still using my very old Northern Lights 25" snowshoes (modified by bolting on old instep crampons for better traction). But at some point I will be in the market for new snowshoes. My use is some trail hiking, some...

    Minus33 Clothing Company

Merino wool has gained much popularity. Deservedly; it's good stuff. There are many suppliers out there. We're ski patrollers, so like the doctor, we lean towards brands that offer "pro deals." We have some Minus 33. Also some "Meriwool Layers" stuff, which is not in the "pro deal"...
