Fitness levels and training (What the HECK!!?)

Carrying less weight helps a lot - being more fit helps a lot - I would not worry so much about the specifics - but you need to do longer periods of slower cardio. Also - I have found that nothing trains for hiking like hiking - the more often you get out on the type of terrain you want to hike...

    moderate hikes in white mountains?

I cannot add much to this - Pierce is a great choice - done it many times - my six year old loved it too. It is never steep. Osceola is an OK choice - but it is all rocks which makes for slow going on the way down which may not be great for you knee. The Moose is great - perhaps a bit longer but...

    Hiking pack

I do not - but I will say that I am very pleased with my two Go Lite packs - I have smaller one that weighs about 1 lb 10 oz empty which is actually big enough for an overnight (used it for two nighter at Chimney Pond) and I have giant one that is great for backpacking - and it weighs in around...

    Camping on TwinWay

That is a pretty flat stretch - nice trail...the big issue in that area is that it is no water along this section until you get to Galehead... I would also think that is a pretty short hiking day (from just below Bondcliff to the area you mentioned)- of course - that may be just what you are...

    Leaps of faith, name them!

There is one on the King Ravine Trail at the base along the Subway - it is kind of a jump over a gap with a small landing area - and I ain't gymnast size...I have done it once - and the other time i opted for the Elevated

Almost famous - sapblatt and LarryD make the paper

we went thru the logged area around 3-4 PM on a Saturday - otherwise we would have had seen a lot of activity I am sure...the logged area looked like a war zone - I think we were so aggravated by the vanishing trail that we did not take any pics of that area.
