Man Calls Helicopter for Injured Thumb

reminds me of the time I was in Eastern Colorado hiking on the prairie - 50-60 mph winds and no shelter anywhere - well, when I went to relieve myself I ended up totally soaked - I just wished there was some one I could have called to come and change my clothes for me - hell - I even wished i...

    Bird question

It is hard to tell small falcons and some hawks apart without seeing their wings spread...good guess...could also be a coopers or sharp shinned hawk - they are known to frequent backyards and eat song birds

    Parapet Trail

...and I beleive the WMG says that the Buttress is one of the more "moderate" trails in the area...I am losing faith in some of that book - I think the Webster Cliff Trail desc is very inaccurate... Parapet is easier from MG to the hut (Only part I have done) - the other section is tougher...as...

How wild should the mountains be?

there should be a mix of all things...some mega remote stuff, some stuff "everyone can do" - some easy, some hard - some trailed - some bushwhack... This is kind of how it is really - there are plenty of places to go in the Whites - it is not all the Presis and Franconia Ridge...early start -...

    Bears in Whites

Not while hiking - but in the woods at the height of land on Pinkham B - mother and a cub - and I saw a small bear cross I-93 at dusk just north of the Kanc... Seen many tracks - some of the more memorable ones were along the lesser used RMC trails - Monoway, Cliffway, etc...
