    Stretching the mid-back?

Back in the day, when I was into martial arts and had occasional back tightness, the two stretches that seemed to help the most were- a backwards stretch as per Neil's Health Bridge (although I just stretched backwards on the floor without a device). The Health Bridge looks like it would be less...

    supplements?

chondroitin, cat's claw ??? Tobit is correct. I don't think you can find glucosamine in your food. I use a glucosamine supplement and that combined with weight training in the gym seem to keep the knees happy. If I ignore the gym for too long (as in skiing or hiking almost every day) the knees...

    Google My Maps

I was just browsing around Google and noticed the "my maps" feature. I know nothing about GPS tracks, but was wondering- VFTT'rs collectively have a massive amount of GPS info. Could there be a way for GPS tracks to be uploaded to a "my maps" site that we all could access? It seems interesting...

Day hike out of Crawford Notch

Considering the group, I would agree that Jackson wouldn't be the best choice. Pierce would be my first choice, but if the weather is mild AND the forecast is without possibility of a storm (given that we all know anything can happen) I would choose Edmands Path to Eisenhower. It's a good climb...

Better not speed when driving to the trailhead

I wonder all the time, considering that the 50 mph section is probably more likely to produce a moose. Although as we all know, moose, bear and deer can be and are to be found everywhere along the route. One possibility is that there are some straighter sections in the 50 mph zone. Another...

    sandwich mtn trail?

I don't know the current conditions, but the bushwhack is easy. Just cross the stream on the road and after about 50 ft head up the bank. You'll cross a narrow field then enter the woods. Angle towards the stream and you'll intersect the trail at or near the crossing.

A bad expierence in the woods today......

A friend had the very same thing happen to him, and it was on his own land. This was during deer season in Central New York several years ago, near Lafayette, NY.

Jogger runs mile with rabid fox biting her arm

Well Sierra, you're not alone. I often carry a fixed blade hunting knife. I do feel self conscious about it sometimes. I will often leave it at home if I'm going to be with a group on a day hike, but when alone it just makes me feel more prepared for the unexpected. Harry
