Lower clearance car driving on road to Mt. Abraham in Kingfield Maine?

Has anyone been on the road to Mt. Abraham recently? My concern is for my 12 year old, lower clearance nissan altima (not the newer style) with more rust on its underside than the titanic at the moment making it up that road and back without incurring damage. Would it make it?

Climbing Katahdin via stellar Cathedral Trail down Hamlin 7-12-12

Thanks all. The pictures don't do it justice, as is always the case. Tim-- Yeah, unfortunately its not really possible to do both Knife Edge and Cathedral in one hike if you want Baxter and Hamlin, but Amicus suggestion up Chimney pond--Cathedral, over Knife Edge, down Heylon Taylor (versus...

Climbing Katahdin via stellar Cathedral Trail down Hamlin 7-12-12

Cathedral Trail indicated in red, straight up the buttress dividing south basin of Katahdin, to the summit (x), as seen from Hamlin Ridge Trail later in day My sixty seven in a single year quest (2012) has brought me to some great places. Finally getting up Katahdin has certainly been a...

    2012 Spring Wildflower Thread

It's funny, when I saw these Colt's Foot blooming four days ago on my property, I thought about starting the first ever "Winter Wildflower Thread." These are blooming about 20 days ahead of last year.

Monroe, Washington, (Clay,) Jefferson - March 12, 2012

Congrats on getting the Single Season in this year! Glad you were able to get it in. Looks like April up there. I will be going for Washington and Jefferson myself on Sunday via Jewell/Gulfside--anything tricky headed to Jefferson? Sounds like there aren't the usual (size) snowfields people...

Backyard Coyote. First time we've seen one in the backyard.

Those are great photos and a beautiful animal. Thats about the size of the ones in the pack by my house, except mine have more black fur mixed in even around face. You can see wolfish charactertics in your shots. Thanks for posting the pics.

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

Thanks to everyone for sharing their coyote stories and for the extra sources/citations on them. Great stuff! I figured instead of relying on wikipedia it would be interesting to tap into the actual experience of the members of this board who have spent a lot of time in the woods to see how...

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

Thanks for the replies, and sharing your stories, insights. keep them coming. I did know ahead of time that statistically getting mauled by coyotes isn't likely. In fact, there have only been two human deaths in all of NORTH AMERICA in the past 30 years. One of them though, was a solo...

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

Question: Anyone here ever have an issue with coyotes while hiking, especially in central NH or elsewhere in New England? Up until recently, I admit I operated under the assumption there was nothing in the NE woods wildlife wise to be afraid of. I do not mean to spark paranoia by this...

    Kinsmans 1/19/2012

Glad to see you were able to make it out there. Great photos and looks like an awesome view day. I think that route has got to be the best winter route to the kinsmans, instead of the eastern fishin jimmy approach with its puds and blocks bolted into the rocks ledges. Hope you make the most...

Your Top 10 Photos of 2011...

Thanks everyone, I always appreciate the effort it takes to get and share these great shots. I fortunately had a great year adventuring, and less free time for processing photos, so I give up... these will have to be the top 10 for me. 1. Sunset Over Striations, Cadillac Mountain, Acadia NP...

    Your favorite photo of 2011

I need more time and more than 1 photo too. Lets start a top 10! For now I will post this one from a trip this October up the Hell Brook trail on Mount Mansfield, VT coming from Smugglers Notch. Why? I guess its because I was just working on editing this batch. And with the downed tree...

    Blue's Belknap Blues 12/3/11

Nice photos as always and great to see a TR from the Belknaps. They are a great underrated and overlooked range I hike often and am glad to have as my local hikes. You certainly had an adventure, which can happen in those small hills. There have been a few rescues on major in the past few...

    Storm Clouds Over Mount Morgan...

Great shot...like the way you got the foliage, sky, and relfective lake perfect all in the same shot. I always enjoy what you share. I was hiking the across the belknaps late that afternoon and on major when squalls moved north of Lake Winnepasuakee, possibly the same one, and I saw a bolt of...

Mt. Carr, NH Oct 8, 2011 - Bearly made it out alive / no joke

Billski-- thanks for sharing your story. I have a feeling though most people haven't had a bad wildlife encounter in the northeast, there a lot of untold close calls out there. That is very true, I can imagine having a roaring bear that close is a reality that changes everything. Recalling...

Taking time to smell the foliage: Pictures from Osceola’s and Greeley Ponds 10/8/11

Thanks all for the kind words. Una Dogger and The Unstrung Harp--sorry you had to miss out on hiking because of less than desireable reasons--working and injury. Hopefully you both get to enjoy the foliage this year somehow, its been pretty good.

Taking time to smell the foliage: Pictures from Osceola’s and Greeley Ponds 10/8/11

The decision of what to hike: What could be said about the forecast for this past Columbus day weekend other than, holy crap! Zero percent chance of precipitation, abundant sunshine, and record high temps. Wow, that must mean that I have to hike both days. I should do an overnight into the...
