Hey Earl, Alway happy to entertain folks :p When I came up behind and you were stopped I figured I'd just go around. That 1st step into the soft snow threw me off balance and had to take quick steps to avoid a face plant...talk about entertaining :D The fellow that took your group pix on...

    The Trail is Now Packed

Does take time to learn Interesting and all good to know! While working on I-91 around Wells River in '75 and being the only one staying in the area during the week in a motel...I noticed a neat looking roundedtop mountain across the river :) It was May, it had snow on it and found out it was...

    Equinox road plowed?

I'd venture a quess that the top 2 1/2 miles aren't plowed but would guess the bottom 2 1/2 are. Don't know for sure though.

    Stratton Mtn, Vermont??

Don't know for sure? My bet would be that it is plowed to the trailhead from the East(but no further), but haven't been there this winter.

    Access to East Kennebago??

I've checked this area in past years. It is used by snowmobiles. I'm guessing it would be tough even finding a spot to park, as I doubt you could drive on the skimobile track with all the snow? I'd plan on digging out a spot to park on the side of the road. Then if you were able to drive in...

    Lafayette, Lincoln & Liberty 2-18-07

Checked the 1st mile of Old Bridal Path 4:30-5:30 Saturday...which had been a clear day w/o much wind, a great day for hiking!!! Met about a dozen folks headed out and trails were well broken out :p Started up @ 6:43 Sunday w/light flurries and 16 degrees. Two people were ahead of me...

Where will you be hiking this weekend?

I'm hoping to get up around Franconia myself  Planning on slow going as the trails may well not be broken out yet :D About time we received some "normal" Snow :p Be safe and have FUN!!!

Winter 48 finish on North Kinsman?

Good Luck! Looks like the weather will be OK, bit breezy perhaps. You may be breaking trail... Look forward to reading about your success!! ;) Congratulations in advance!!!

Way ta go Carole!!! Your probably the 1st to break "new" snow ;)

    GPS off by 36 feet

not being a technical person... Guess I'd wonder most about the Knife Edge statement. When on a hike...say, going over the knife edge or on the pier and you set a waypoint there. On your return, being in a white out for instance, if you "goto" that waypoint...will it guide you back to that...

    A Great(long) Day!!! 2-11-07

North Twin #73...South Twin #74...Galehead #75...Garfield(to be determined) :D It's the list(NEHH Solo Winter) that motivates me to get to these Wonderful locations...but it's MUCH more than that ;) Left home @ 3am and got back @ 7:30pm. Going over the top of 118 I was treated to an...

    Franconia Ridge.

Just checked and tomorrow looks like 30-40% change of flurries and temps not much above zero up above. May try for Twins tomorrow  Good luck on Sunday! Look forward to hearing about it.

    Franconia Ridge.

Finalized plans? Have you decided when you plan to do this(Sat/Sun), what start time/location and where do you plan to finish? Thanks!
  16. MTNRUNR

    Lafayette to Garfield?

Thanks! I'd done the ridge to Garfield in non-winter in '75. Remember thinking a lot went on between the map contours, lots of not to big ups/downs. Thinking of going from Lafayette because it most likely has unbroken snow and there's more downhill in that direction...so long as you can find...

Technical ice axes on sale, cheap.

Good deal! Have read about lots of folks usin them for one thing or another...just ordered a VENOM. sounds nasty  One more thing to carry, oh boy :p Hopefully won't ever need it

    Lafayette to Garfield?

Doubt this section is traveled very much. For those that have done it, what hike would you say it is most similiar to? Is the trail fairly easy to follow in the winter, if it hasn't been traveled? Thanks :)

    MA and RI Firetower Sites

Fyi... Tower on Watatic is gone and don't think you can go up one on Wachusett, but have good views from the open summit :p

2-3-07 Tecumseh-One of the Most Beautiful Hikes I've Taken

Fyi As I remember it, this section was fairly wide but not wide enough for a groomer and was the trail used for hiking to the summit.
